How's it going? Second week down for me, and my first test, too! It seems like we have so much more to do this semester than last, which is what we thought last semester. I'm doing my best to get all the little things done early so I don't have them pecking at me when the big stuff is due. Time management, right?
No one knows where they'll be doing their capstone yet, and there were several sites that quite a few people wanted. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. I think I would like any of my choices.
See anything cool in clinicals yet? I met a guy who came in coding after a massive stroke; he wasn't expected to live, let alone function, but he can read, speak slowly, and move all four limbs. I want half his stamina and strength. I'd also take a quarter of his sense of humor.
Are you drowning in work? Have you thought about quitting yet (I have)? Do you know where your capstone will be (if you have one)?
Just finished up week 3. The first exam is on Tuesday and Im really worried because Ive been doing a lot of "self teaching". The instructor goes off topic and on tangents so much that I cant follow her during lecture. I need some type of structure when Im learning new material and Im not getting that from her.
This first and second exams will be on OB stuff and then we move onto Peds. I just want to get through this semester, there seems to be so much busy work this semester and last semester there was none of that!
Havent heard anything about our preceptorship yet. Im not even sure how theyre going to choose who goes where.
Do you guys have to do the IPA? Its where you have a conversation with the patient, are supposed to remember every word, then document it and say if what you said was therapeutic or not and then provide the rationale for your position......Of course I can never remember every word, patient does not feel like talking so of course these always end up being works of fiction.....
What a horrific waste of time
I'm a 2nd semester student in psych right now, and I just did this. We call it a process recording. Such a waste of what could be useful study time. I wanted to kill myself. oops, I hope no one analysis that to be a suicide threat. lawd.
Spent Sunday and Monday in orientation and lecture today and Thursday and start clinical for Advanced Med-Surg on Friday. I believe we start with two patients and we don't get our assignments until we get to the hospital.
Mindlor, I did that in psych last semester and it was called a process recording for us. Thankfully we only had to do one.
I had my last clinical orientation EVER today and they decided to throw a new computer program at us. We are now using Nurse Squared and will be entering everything on our netbooks. The only problem is that we aren't allowed to have them with us at the hospital except on the days we are picking up our patients. We will end up doing everything at least 3 times
We also found out that we will have to do 30 careplans some weeks...I may never sleep again!!!!
Good luck guys!!! We can do this :)
We are in week 2 right now. They just threw us right into work and it'll be that way until May. We have 3 weeks on campus working on certain lab skills (we get signed off on IV's next week) and then we start our clinical rotations. We will be doing Peds, Vent, Trach care, ICU, Ambulatory Surgery, some PACU, some ER, some Community Health, and a bunch of advanced Med-Surg. We will be having quizzes and exams every week. On top of that I signed up for a specialty honors internship in the NICU. I did the same in Labor and Delivery last semester (it was an option for those who qualified and wanted more experience in certain specialty areas). We just got done being ACLS certified (grateful the school paid for 75% of the fee, that class is not cheap LOL). I am ready to be done though, just tired, and excited we are all close to being done!! :)
Is there any particular area any of you are most interested in or excited about this semester??

Finished 2 weeks of my last semester; 2 days of precepting. First day shadowed and no login to learn the computer charting program. They have a new eMAR system that is PITA for my RN. It is a new hospital for me, and I learned the other hospital's system last semester. It will get better, I know, but it was demoralizing the last 2 days.
