I'm a new RN & I joined Sigma Theta Tau (Nursing Honor Society) & also the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. I joined because I receive nursing journals with both of my memberships as well as e-mails telling me the latest nursing news, seminars, etc. I try to attend some of the functions/seminars they put on because it makes me feel like I'm part of a greater community & helps me feel move involved in things.

Hi! Yes I think it's definitely worth the money to get involved in nursing associations. There are so many out there, I would suggest joining one that you have an interest in. For example, I love medical-surgical nursing, so I joined the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses. I know there are other nursing specialty organiztions as well (pedi, ob/gyn, psych, ER, etc.) By joining I get a journal every month, e-mails telling me the latest related news, discounts on nursing books & other products, etc. Plus I am always learning new things by reading the journals.

At my school it is mandatory for students to join and become involved w/ the student nurses' assoc. No problem w/ that since I think we can learn about "corp. politics" in this arena. Also think professionals should be involved w/ their own organizations. Nurses have a very low rate of participation...

Best association for nursing students is National Student Nurses Association (NSNA): www.nsna.org
My involvment in schools chapter as president, earned the opportunity to attend 1982 convention where I met many nursing leaders. Those meetings and discussions fueled my passsion for nursing and nuring activism.
GO FOT IT!

I was an NSNA member in school; kept me abreast of upcoming changes in nursing and as a student, I enjoyed it. Even attended a conference, very stimulating.
I am an AWHONN member now (my speciality is OB.) Being a member, I get discounts for conferences and also receive two journals in the mail, as well as other bennies. It's a great way to keep up on the many changes occuring in my specialty everyday. I enjoy my membership.
Hi all I was wondering what organizations people supported?
It could be nursing related or anything relevant.
Please give the Title of the organization and a web site if possible
I am thinking about joining:
National Student Nurses' Association
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)
Have fun :)

Hey,
I am a student nurse and have been told that its a good idea to get involved in nursing associations. What do y'all think about getting involved? Do you think it is worth the money? If you agree with getting involved, what associations would you suggest to someone who wants to join one?
