  2. Just wanted to give in my 2 cents. I am a guy and when i did L & D i got turned away from 3 live births. 2 of them said yes at first but when I walked into the room they changed their minds. I guess when they saw that I was a guy that changed their mind. The only thing that hurts the most is when I get asked into the room and they have to walk back to the professor and ask for a new assignment. Only 1 of my patient's was not afraid of me being in the room. She just said, oh time to breast feed. woop off came her top and the baby was drinking away. I am sure the experience is different for everyone and I hope the best for you. Just remember if L & D is what you want to do, GO FOR IT. Best of Luck to you. PS - For all the guys that keep getting booted out of a live birth go hang out with the new borns in the nursery. New borns don't care if you are guy /girl /green / blue / and have 6 eyes. All they want is for you to change them, hold them, and feed them. I had the best time in the nursery. Babies are just really fun and cute to hang with, no negative vibes what so ever from any one of them.
  3. Hi all I was wondering what organizations people supported? It could be nursing related or anything relevant. Please give the Title of the organization and a web site if possible I am thinking about joining: National Student Nurses' Association http://www.nsna.org/ American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) http://www.aspca.org/ Have fun :) MJ-12
  4. I'm wondering does EKG and ECG mean the same thing?? If not please explain these to me. Another thing i'm wondering about is what is an A-line and B-line I thought that it was for the IV pumps, apparently it's for something else. If someone could explain that to me too.
  5. Let me just give a bit of back ground. I am a nursing studen and am just about to go into clinicals. I just got a Littmann stethoscope because I heard unbelievable things about them, most nurses and doctors have them and suggest to get one. Well thats exactly what I did i got a Littmann Master Classic II and its pretty good. The problem I am having is that I think when I use the stethoscope is that when I put it in my ears and press on the bell there is a huge amout of pressure and if feels like my ears are going to pop. Its like putting your hand on your ears and creating a suction feeling. The feeling is very uncomfterable but I am able to bear through it and take the blood pressure but don't like the feeling. Is this suppose to be normal?? It does say that it has a "Patented Littmann Soft-sealing eartips" Anyway please give feedback on if this is normal, what littmann you have, and your opinion of your littmann or other stethescopes. Thanks, MJ
  6. I was thinking about getting Lasik done but i heard that there is a loss in night vision. Not a total loss but you get the halo effect around bright objects But I have heard that there is a new procedure done to reduce the loss of night vision. I may look into it into the future But for now I am going to stick to glasses or contacts

I heard from a friend that when she wanted to quit smoking she tried acupuncture to calm the cravings They said that along with acupuncture there was also stickers that were put in the ear which she pressed on every so often and the cravings would go away But be ware that there are certain points on the body that should be avoided when pregnant. I'm sure that the acupuncturists should know about it but just make sure that they know that you are pregnant Not sure how it is but hey give it a shot, it has no nicotine, no gums. Just needles, yea sounds scary but the needles are ultra thin, once it goes it and pushed in, doesn't hurt after that. Removal of the needle doesn't even hurt, oh and no scars, also minimal bleeding to no bleedin at all. Not sure if its your cup of tea, but think of the baby and your health Good luck
  8. Just a few more questions, is the pain around the abdomen fixed or moving? Does it feel better when you press down on the area or does it get worse? Does she have any taste in her mouth? or is it normal? Any signs of redness in the face or red eyes? Does she have loose stool or is it normal or constipated Also how is her appetite? Sorry for all the wierd questions just need some more info
  9. Yea yea I know it's a pretty dumb question but I have no idea what is the difference. Just need to cure my curiosity
  10. Hi Future_RN, It seems like you are headed in the right direction. I'm not sure if you already have but also try shadowing a RN to make sure that this is what you really want. Also if you have any other majors in mind, now is the time to see what is out there. But if becoming a RN is what you really want to do, then you are on the right track. Definitly when you are in college take the basic science classes like chem, bio, anatomy, etc. The may is just algebra, nothing higher than pre-calc. Also for a BSN you might have to take a statistics class. Other than that thats basically all the core classes that you have to take. Good luck, MJ
  11. Glad that you found something new that you like. I'm also glad that you are not totally leaving the nursing field by volunteering with hospice As you said it "it'll be the best of both worlds!" And i totally agree with that. Good luck with your new adventure, MJ
