new LPN pay in a family practice clinic??

I work in Illinois at a Family Practice clinic prn. I do not get benefits or insurance and am curious what the going rate is in your area. People tend to laugh :lol2: when I tell them what I make. Granted I am a new grad but I am an excellent nurse. Also I just got my annual eval and it was excellent and the increase also made my husband laugh.:lol2: Is this place cheap and I'm stupid :uhoh3: or is this just the going rate???? Once I see what other people say I'll decide whether to say what I make due to the fact I don't want everyone to laugh too.

When I completed an LVN program in Los Angeles in October 2005, a family practice clinic was offering $15 hourly to new grads.

I now live in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. A local chain of family practice clinics starts new grad LVNs at $14 hourly with a $3 evening hourly differential and a $4 weekend diff.

Overall, clinic work tends to be very low-paying.

I know a clinic near me (IN) was offering RNs $13/hr about a year or two ago.

That's about half the hospital pay, lol. ;)

I know that when I looked into working in a physician's office a couple years ago, then wanted to pay LPNs like $10.00/hr. At the hospitals and nursing homes, the average was $12.00/hr and then gets up to $15.00/hr when you get closer to the city. I work agency making about $20.00/hr. So offices and clinics tend to get paid significantly less around here.

This is in Pennsylvania.

Thanks for your responses, and I don't feel quite so bad, my pay is $13.87/hr, but I'm still convinced their cheap.

I just quit my job... because of nursing school schedule conflicts, but as a CMA, doing LVN work I was almost $23/hr... but the benefits sucked, no breaks, and there was only myself and the receptionist... so lord behold if I had to take a sick day because if I did I felt guilty because he was too cheap to hire a float... so it all depends on everything... one may get a lower pay but excellent benefits...or vice versa... (here in CA)

My biggest complaint is that I get no benefits because I am prn, so I figure I'm saving the clinic quite a bit of money and they pay terrible to compensate for my cheap, non benefited position.

Our family practices average $9-$11/hr with no benefits. I work in a nursing home and make $18.75 and $20.25 on weekends, there is a big difference.

One of our OB docs just lost his LPN, he was asking around, saying that he pays 12-13$ on hour. We laughed until we realized he was serious.

I've worked for doctors (as a medical office assitant) for the past 12 years and they are notoriously cheap, but paying LPN's as low as $9-$15 per hour! That is horrendous. I make $17 as an MOA (secretary basically) and would be making much more if I still lived in Vancouver.

Very few doctors here have LPN's in their offices, but I would hope that he/she would pay at least $20/hour considering and LPN can get $21.50/hour to start at the hospital and even higher in private nursing homes.

I make 21/hour at the office where I work as a LPN. But I have alot of office nursing experience and have been there awhile. I love it, no nights/weekends/or holidays. My benefits are pretty good too. One thing I found though, if you work in a small-private office your insurance will be much more expensive, while in an office associated with a hospital/company your insurance is much more affordable.

Salaries vary widely by geographic area. Even within Illinois, the rate in Chicago metro might be $2-3higher than 100 miles away.

Best bet is to check salary.com or other sites that use their salary wizard. They'll give you the range for your specific area.
