forgiveness...

Does your school offer any type of acedemic forgiveness? I will be going back next year and find my grades from 10 years ago so frustrating. I know its my own fault...but who is the same person they were at 18?

I just wanted to say that its not aweful...but not great. 2.9 It would take me 20 credit hours of straight A's to get it up to a 3.0 I have over 134 credit hours from my first B.A.

It just depends on your schools policy. Where I go you can retake your classes and replace the lower grades. There is also academic forgiveness in certain situations but you have to get it approved by the professor and dept. head. You should look into it...I never thought I'd get my GPA up and I did. It also depends on what the entrance req's are for the nursing program. There are some schools that don't require you to have a super high GPA.

Also, some schools JUST look at the nursing classes. It doesnt matter what I made 20 years ago. I did have to re-take my psychology class that I made a C in 20 years ago, because that is one of the pre-requisites to getting in. Now I have an A. :wink2: It really all depends on your school.

My school offers forgiveness. Classes have to be 5 yrs old or more, and you wipe out the entire semester of classes--so if you just want one class forgiven, it doesnt work if you have more classes during that same semester that you want to keep. They all go--does that make sense? So if you had straight A's in Fall 1996 but got one F--you will have to wipe clean not just the F but the A's as well. So all classes for Fall 1996 would be gone...

This is not as unusual as you may think and most schools do have some sort of system to make allowances for past academic issues especially if you have showed that your recent pre-req grades are good. Hang in there and don't beat yourself up over something that you did when you were 18.

Exactly! I had the same problem. I was able to take an "academic fresh start" which wiped out everything from 1996 back. At my current college, retaking classes wasn't an option as you are penalized in the nursing application process for taking repeat classes. This was a great option for me. Talk to your school and see what they offer--it is worth a shot!

Call the registrar's office and ask. My school has something called Academic Renewal. I took advantage of it when I started back to school last year. I had stupidly quit school in 1999 and didn't withdraw, so I had 2 F's. You have to meet some requirements though. My school required at least five years between now and the last time you were in school. You could not take the academic renewal and apply transfer credits. You had to choose which was more important (I didn't have any transfer credits so that didn't matter to me). It would have taken forever to erase those two bad grades, but now I have a 3.45. After this semester that should go up since I am retaking A&P I. ;) I hope you find something that works out for you.

I didn't even want to go to school when I got my BS and picked a major at random and only had a 2.0 b/c my parents kept telling me I would lost my health ins if I didn't go back every year.

That was 12 years ago..I recently e-mailed them regarding going there for a BSN program (when I get my ASN), and they said if it had been 5 years and I had completed at least 12 hours of new coursework, they would use that as my GPA for BSN admission.

I was very, very excited to hear as I was afraid this door was closed for me.

the college that I went to will wipe out my first semester (1988.. I didn't withdraw) as long as I have completed 30 units of college work and have a certain GPA. I just have to fill out the form and submit transcripts. (a little footwork, but worth it.. )

It is a one time deal at this school.. one per customer... (has to over a certain time period as well)

Thank goodness!!
