So a parent has been having problems with our school because small things, which is him wearing a thicker jacket and she wanting me to give him more of his puffs than he needs. (Asthma). I haven't been in the problem except she told the school I overdosed him (Which I didn't. I gave him the puffs he needed and when I am suppose to.) and as well now because I was given these two letters. I called his doctor yesterday by orders of the admin to ask for a doctor's note that says what the mom is asking and about the action plan. Then today I got the letter faxed by the doctor, with signature and then another one from the mom... painfully obvious she forged it. I called the doctor and asked about which one I should follow, obviously they said to follow their orders and they only sent one letter. Told my admin. While both letters sort of say the same thing, how bad is it that she gave a forged letter to the school?
Yeah she says and I quote "I work as a respiratory therapist and I been in pulmonary and cardiology and I probably know more than your doctors or her, so she doesn't know anything. That's why I need to teach her and show her what she needs to know because she's not a real nurse."Yeah I don't know my stuff on lungs, and yes I'm only a CMA, but I do know some things ( one year experience at a cardiology), and trying to prove to your child that I'm incapable of being his "nurse", isn't going to help. I need your child to tell me what's going on, not act like nothing is wrong and doing this is just going to do the opposite. That's what I explained to her and told her son, because I know the kid likes school and he doesn't like the hospital but if he's having issues breathing, he needs to tell me or something bad can happen and I don't want to be liable for him.
Document, document, document. This is a horrible situation that has exacerbated because of mom's inferiority complex. Poor kid is stuck in the middle.
Thank you! I try my best and since then I call in each note I get to ask if they did send this note. And thankfully there hasn't been another incident like this one.I would like to commend you Amethya on noticing the forgery and doing something about it. I remember a long time ago a friend of mine used to forge their own physicals because they couldn't afford them. Either no one noticed or cared about it. Thanks for being a caring school nurse.
But I think that's sad that there's some people that can't afford healthcare and this shows how bad our healthcare system is in our country. Other places have better care than ours. If I could, I would do free vaccines and other things, but since I'm only a CMA, I can't, but I try to give people free stuff when I can.
Amethya, what a crazy tale! I also wanted to give ya a digital 'pat on the back' and a high-five for not only catching the forgery, but for your detective work and follow through. But especially for standing up for yourself. You seem extremely knowledgeable and professional. I hated to hear you say, "I'm only a CMA." You are obviously an asset to the school and to your students, no matter what your job title.
I don't know if I could have stayed as calm, cool, and collected if that woman confronted me and tried to quiz me like that. Good job!
Thank you!
I say I'm only a CMA, because some people don't like it if I say I'm a school nurse when I'm not a nurse. I'm sure there's legal reason for that too, but I just don't want to be in trouble for that here or out here in the real world.
I would like to be a real nurse though, so hopefully I can get to that point where I can have a BSN or RN behind my name.
I had a similar note once upon a time: It said something like " This child's parents are very smart and love their child very much. Anytime child is absent from school it's because the parents are smart enough not to send him, so quit sending letters to them saying he's missed too much school.
Looked suspect, so I called Dr office. Turns out that Dr had been out of the country x 6 mos....
