Foreign Nurse with Green Card

World International

Published

Hi,

I am new to this forum (or any other for that matter) and need some information. I came to the USA with an H-4 visa (dependent of H1B) but currently have a Green card. I have been taking care of my daughter but now need to start working. I live in Tn (a compact state) but we are planning to move to Colorado. I was filling the application from the Colorado State of nursing and found out that because I am living in TN can not apply there and need to apply here where CGFNS is required. I do not want to take this exam (and spend more money). I have been studying hard for NCLEX and not sure if there is a way around it. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to for example to use my address in my home country?

Thanks

As I read their website you do not need CGFNS exam but CES. Which country did you do your nurse training in. Makes no difference using address in home country you still have to follow state requirements for foreign nurse

CGFNS already send them the CES and as I read their website the only thing I need to do is to send my application (and the check for the fee and the affidavit of elegibility) and wait for them to contact Pearson in order to get the ATT and schedule my NCLEX. Right? But what happens after I take and pass (hopefully) the exam have a limited license (only for Colorado) and want to work in another compact state?

I did my nursing training in Peru.

My understanding of compact is live in one state but work in another ie live on the borders. If you are looking at moving state then as I understand it you need to endorse your license therefore meet requirements as foreign nurse and pay any fees

If you move from the state where you are currently living, and therefore moving your tax home; then the compact license will become null and void.

A limited license means something else entirely, so that is not a phrase to use at all. You will have a free and clear license but it will be valid only for the one state. You will need to apply for a license in the new state once you are there using License by Endorsement and since you will be a resident there, then you will get a license that can be used in other compact states.

But be aware that if you move, the compact part of the license will become null and void. It is not valid if you move from there. There are already several threads on the Compact License system, suggest that you do a search and get the specifics on it. There seems to be much that you are not aware of with the requirements for it.

Best of luck on your new career.
