The role of nursing is being taken off the Home Office shortage occupation list, this applies to band 5 or 6 posts. Click here to read the full story on the BBC site.I can't understand why the RCN are so mad about this, when there UK nurses that are unable to find employment, it seems like they have their priories wrong. I know there is a lot of nurses due to retire within the next 10 years but when the government spends so much to train nurses & then 80% of nursing students are unable to find jobs & they are forced to take jobs else where, there is the possiblity of them not returning it seems to make sense to take nursing off the shortage occupation list, it's not that it has to be removed forever.
I agree. :uhoh21: :)

So do I!
I due to qualify in 6 months and with 650 nursing posts to go in my area theres not much hope of me finding work after studying for four years.
Come to America! I *heart* Brits! You can work for a few years and save up your funds. When they get things all sorted out you can always go back. By then hopefully housing costs will have gone down a bit and you can buy a lovely home in the UK!
Things aren't perfect here, but you've got to eat in the mean time.
I sure hope they get things sorted out in the UK. I am pulling for all you hardworking UK nurses!

unfortunately training these days doesn't meet the requirements to work in the US but definately a shame that things are happening in the UK and affecting both already qualified nurses and students just qualifying :angryfire
It is also affecting Drs. A very competent Dr on our ward will have to return home in August as he cannot get a job here. apparantly the UK now has to first recruit from the European Union before taking on staff from the rest of the world. mmmmm that doesn't mean that we are getting the best staff. Although Drs (and nurses) that struggle to be understood by patients and staff remains an issue. (not so with the Dr mentioned above)

Do you speak Spanish? If not why not do a spanish language course to prepare yourself.
