Just plain curiosity : - Since there is retrogression now, are there still hospitals that sponsors nurses to the US? Appreciate your reply.

Sure, their may still be a few but most will not start anything unless they are sure that something can proceed in completion.
During retrogression, only the I-140 petition is allowed to be filed, everything after that is on hold and one cannot adjust status as well during retrogression (I-485).
If you were an employer chances are you will also not start anything at all until retrogression is lifted.
thanks lawrence for the reply.I just want to ask also that if the employer agrees and file the I-140 will i be able to get a temporary work permit and will be able to work until the retrogression be lifted?

We do not have temporary work visas, the only thing that is available to you is the green card. And not aware of anyone in the Bay Area that is petitioning at this time. Sponsorship is for the H1-B visa and is not available for RNs. Be aware that it is quite difficult for a new American grad to get a position in the Bay Area, so getting a facility to petition you and wait for perhaps about five years should not even be a consideration at this time for you.
It is the highest paying area in the country, and therefore many want to work in that area.
We have seen a significant decrease in the number of facilities in CA that will even consider petitioning at this time, and that goes even lower if the nurse does not have any experience. Please be aware that even with passing the examd and having an employer, there still is no guarantee that you will be able to get a visa.
Please read the threads about the retrogression, you are directly afffected by them.

my question was..how can i get an SSN #??i am not committed with any agency at present.i've worked in the middle east as a PICU nurse for 1 year..and now,im planning to take a formal dialysis traning here in the philippines
do you have any advice on what steps should i take in order to secure an SSN??coz i've inquired from a recruiter, and he is asking for an SSN.i told him that what i know is that the employer will be the one to apply for this SSN..i hope i'm not mistaken..

There is not one way for you to obtain a SSN# until you have been thru the immigration process and are in the US on a visa that will permit you to work. The employer cannot apply for a SSN# for you, it actually needs to be done in person at the Social Security Administration office in the US and by you. No one else can apply for it for you.
If the recruiter listened to you about the SSN# and had no idea of it, then I would suggest running as fast as you can from them. Theyhave no idea of what is being done in the US at this time. The reason that they may have been asking for the SSN# is to see if you already had a visa that would permit you to work in the US.
Next item on my list for you; getting dialysis training in your country if you are not going to get actual paid experience after it is really not going to help you in any way get a job in the US as any company that will hire you to do dialysis will do their onw training in the way that they do things. If you are going to have to pay for this training, I would not do it.
Thread moved to the International forum since it is specific to working in the US, and not specific to issues in the Philippines.
The retrogression affects all nurses.

Follow Suzanne's advice. She's right. Run as fast as you can from that recruiter. He doesn't know a thing. In order to get a SSN, you need to finish the immigration papers first..and that's not possible at the moment coz of retrogression. Try scouting for a US hospital or Skilled Nursing Facility who is willing to petition despite of the retrogression. So you can start filing your I-140 (Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker) and get a priority date. It may take years but might as well do something rather than nothing. Get more experience while waiting for your priority date to be current.
