Foreign grad. ATT denied. Need suggestions.

Published

I graduated in 2010 in PI. Took the NCLEX California Exams in 2011, failed. Then I reapplied in 2012 and got denied. Now they were asking me to take OB and Med-Surg course so I can re-apply for the exams.

To my fellow Pinoy nurses, what would be the best thing to do to fulfill my dream to become a US Nurse? Which state would still allow foreign grads to take NLCEX exams without retaking some course?

How much will the tuition fee be for OB and MedSurg courses in California?

I have been working so hard to raise my family and I realized that I can not just give up my dream to become an RN. I badly need some help. Thank you!

California is different animal when it comes to regulatory ****, but I can't say I blame them totally, alot of filipinos are making headlines and not in a good way.. I am too also a PI graduate 2014 but haven't bothered applying here in CA for NCLEX-RN yet, but I just took my NCLEX-PN (PVT is showing positive sign) I'm waiting for my ATT though from NV

Apply to another state. I just passed NCLEX last June 2015. Illinois is not so fussy, you can get your ATT in less than a month. Ca is not a good choice right now, you have to take mandatory subjects match with the number of hours in areas like OB and Maternal.

Illinois it is.. got my ATT in less than 2 weeks. i have a friend who is also a PI graduate and wanted to take NCLEX in CA aswell. but they were asking her to take classes just like the way they asked you to do. she's here in IL now, got her ATT. now its up to her when she will take the test.

Thanks mga Kabayan! You guys inspired me to pursue my dream. Thank you!

DO they require CGFNS? Do I have to go to Illinois for the Live Scan fingerprinting?

Thanks!

Hi dreamtheater, no they don't need CGFNS. Before yes. You can have your fingerprinting done at your local police ofc and send your fingerprint card to one of the accredited vendor to forward it to IDFPR or the BON. Hope this one helps. Goodluck on your NCLEX.

That helped a lot! Thank you so much Ms.Belladona.

BEst,

Yes, CA is no longer the "easiest, fastest and cheapest" state to get the ATT or to get endorsed into since Nov. 2011 (when the strict enforcement went into effect on the concurrency rules established back in 1987).

The "easiest, fastest and cheapest" to get your RN license is in the state (assuming you can qualify with their requirements) is the state where you plan to look for a job the minute you pass the NCLEX-RN and start building your family there and plant the roots.

There are so many still trying to get their RN licenses from out of state then try to endorse back into CA, but that "back door" has been closed as the endorsement application will still be denied as what rejected the application in the first place will be turned down again for the same reason (be it concurrency issues, lack of MB-OB courses, other courses deficient, insufficient course or clinical hours, etc).

Remember guys, don't be hating on the CA BRN, it's due to the CA BRN finding out about the previous PH grads and nurses who decided to cheat their way to get the ATT or endorsement (via Recto street paperwork etc), that brought them to look at ALL of the PH transcripts with a microscope and thus, the request for more documentation and questionable courses to be either re-done or re-do the entire nursing program.

The CHED, PRC and PNA also did a wonderful "disservice" to ALL of us PH nurses and grads by not listening to the CA BRN in years passed, but then again, the three PH agencies don't need to be concerned about what's good for CA but what's good for the country itself and that's with them all knowing over 33% of all PH students make CA their number one choice for the trip over the pond.

It's really all about the $$.

Hi, i am an Illinois applicant too. Do I still have to submit the CT-NUR form to CTS?

State of California and Cali Board Of Nursing should take some blame as well.

With California are so inviting to Illegal Aliens and willing to give them Driver Licenses and Free Health care. They are given sanctuary in this crazy state.

The California Board of Nursing was doing a horrible job and in 2009 the Governor fired almost all the board members.

I am sure California issued RN licenses to many nurses who brought in fake credentials , and not only from Philippines. I would say most of these RN are still in practice today

Years have long passed since 2009 when the CA Governor did let go of the bad nursing leaders and their staffs and today have enforced a regulation (concurrency) that has pretty much slowed down if not nearly closed the doors to most PH nurses and grads that recently have been trying to come in since Nov. 2011.

Those declined nursing applicants are now going to TX where the rules and regulations to get licensed is so much easier than in CA, as well as those PH nurses who have falsified and fake documentation are all going to TX now, since now the CA BRN has been very suspect of their transcripts.

But CGFNS doesn't care or check for those in those states that have the concurrency rules (NV as an example has been on the books since 1952).

I'm sure there are still many of the PH nurses today that came in with fraudulent documents years ago, but it's too late to "grandfather" them out but it has stopped the newer applicants that have been working and practicing nurses for years in another state but can not longer get endorsed back into CA (if they never passed the NCLEX-RN in CA).

There are several other posting threads here where a PH nurse has been in VA, NY, VA or you name any other out of state licensees and they can't get a job in CA due to they don't have the required minimum documentation that's asked of any and all applicants, whether they are US residents or graduated with international degree.

The CA BRN may have taken the ride with the fake documents for years but that's becoming a thing with the past. However, it's been posted by a few other PH writers that they "know" of their friend's school or colleges who have willfully "adjusted" their transcripts to make it appear concurrent with the CA regulations.

I would not be surprised one day, when the CA BRN starts to see that somehow one or two or three other PH colleges or more starts to all of a sudden, show that their students from previous years that their students were previously denied are coming more and more compliant. Then the CA BRN will simply no longer accept any transcripts from the PH or from those certain schools. It doesn't take much for a transcript staffer in PH to make a few extra pesos by doctoring the documents.

But then, again, they'll simply go to TX or other states that are not so strict (with the fake documentations). In CA now, if they are found to have presented false documents, they will get jail time and lose their nursing licenses.

With regards to the illegal aliens or workers (as in undocumented) in CA getting a driver's license, CA is the 10th state to do and not the starter of the driver licenses movement. The driver's license is just that, a license to drive, not to vote, not for employment rights etc.

They have to be fully insured (not them personally but of their registered cars and trucks), so it's safer now vs them being uninsured. Should they fail to keep up with their insurance policies, their vehicle registration gets suspended and DMV gets electronic notices of this and they have 14 days to bring their insurance current or they will not be able to renew their license and can suspend their driving privileges and can't register their vehicles until the insurance is back to current standing.

A law enforcement (CHP) friend of ours loves the new law....why? He says now if one is stopped, they no longer will give out a fake name and they don't run! The new driver knows if they don't pay their tickets, it will catch up with them and can also suspend their driver's license.

This new law was passed after 18 years in the Governor's office so the people getting the new licenses are very grateful. Besides, they were driving anyways without the true and actual DL's.
