You would need to take the exam and have a licence from the Phillipines before you could apply for any licensure in the US. In order to write the NCLEX you would have to be granted permission by the BON in the state that you applied to. If you were successful in passing the NCLEX you would still have to obtain a Green Card before you could work.Due to retrogression you would be looking at a wait of several years.

Depends on the state and whether they require you to have a local license or not. However as mentioned in the previous post you will be affected by retrogression and will more than likely have to return home and wait for a GC which could take years. You may want to reconsider taking local license and look for work to maintain nurse experience and employers may expect you to keep up to date with things. You may also want to think about another country and will more than likely find local license is required.
Also be aware that the process to go through the process to be a licensed nurse in the US can take anything from 4-12 months depending on the state you apply to (NY requires CVS which can take anything from 4-8 months) so you may have to leave the US and sit NCLEX in another country if your tourist visa expires
thank you so much for that! but what if I extend or get a nursing education or training in the U.S,most likely i'l apply for a student visa, would that make me qualify for the NCLEX-RN exam?? thanks
What sort of training are you looking at doing? Some may require you to be licensed already. If you haven't got a local license you need to check using the links to state board of nursing at the bottom of the page and apply to the BON and be assessed as there are a few that will accept you if you haven't got a local license.
Be aware even if you become a student you may be looking at many years before you can adjust your status and get a GC, can you afford to pay International fees for a long time?
thank you also for that.. can I process my NCLEX-RN exam right after I passed the local licensure exam?

Decide what state you're applying to, and look at their website for the current requirements for foreign-educated nurses. You generally need your nursing license and full school transcripts to apply for NCLEX exam. Having a student visa has nothing to do with eligibility to sit the exam.

I graduated 2008, this is my 2nd time to take the test. :-(

Read the NY BON website, all instructions are there regarding what you have to do as a International trained nurse. Hint you will need CVS with CGFNS and they do all the running regarding obtaining relevant documents based on the information you submit. DO NOT apply for NCLEX because until you meet requirement you will not be able to sit NCLEX. Usual processing times for NY is 6-8 months depending on how quick and timely your documents are received.
Do you plan on working in NY because if you do not then I would not recommend you go the CVS route?

yup :) i do plan on working in NY. so before i even apply for the nclex, i have to make an account on the CGFNS website and process all my papers with them first? and once everything has been approved, THATS the time i will apply for my nclex? I will apply for the Credential Verification Service of New York State application? I will leave the philippines in 2 months already, do you know which documents i have to have the school forward to them? thanks a bunch :)
You do nothing regarding sending in any documents, with CVS, CGFNS is paid to do it all. You can not sit NCLEX until informed by the BON that you have eligibility and that can take anything from 6-8 months
