Hi! I'm a registered nurse in the Philippines. I really decided to join this website because I have so many questions in mind that is bothering me right at this moment. This is regarding my plans of working in Illinois. I will be taking the CGFNS exam this July. In God's grace to pass, I'm planning to take IELTS exam and apply for an NCLEX examination. I would just like to ask an advice from you if what exam should I take first? Is it the IELTS or apply first to NCLEX? And how many months does this application will be approved by the Illinois BON? Because I've heard from my friends that it will took us a couple of months for our application to be approved by the Illinois BON for us to take the NCLEX exam. Is it true? Thanks ahead for your reply... God bless!!!

thanks jmolina! is processing really that slow at the cgfns office? all the waiting is slowly killing me. hahaha. seriously though, i have to get my eligibility first before registering with pearsonvue right? do they have an application deadline as well? and when is the right "time" to register and pay to minimize the waiting time?

thanks so much! it's just that i have been a bum since i took the philippine board exam last june and all the waiting is making me very impatient. and crabby. hehehe

oh does anyone have CTS' number? what i have is the toll free one and it's pretty useless because all it does is tell me to go to their website which is useless as well. hahaha. oh and i recieved a letter from them a week after i sent in the application form with the money order and says there that i still lack the fingerprint receipt and the CES thing.

Have you gone through CES and arranged for CGFNS to forward it to Illinois? They will not process your application unless it is complete and their requirements are CES, TOEFL and according to their website TOEFL is the only English exam they will accept. Do not register with Pearsonvue until you receive eligibility in case there are any delays with your application

yep! and in the letter that cts sent in response to tell me that they have recieved my application form and the payment, they didn't say anything about toefl but it won't be a problem with me because i have taken the test and got my results back.. my score is good enough for the IL-BON requirement but the speaking part's not for the cgfns visa screen. any chance that this could be waived without me taking the toefl exam again?

No CGFNS will not waive it if it doesn't meet their scores. Website for Illinois said TOEFL http://www.idfpr.com/DPR/APPLY/FORMS/CGFNS_02.pdf

The reason I asked about CES is because you said in your post that you have received a letter about CES from BON

yep! hehe i've indicated in my cgfns ces application form that the report is to be sent to il-bon/idfpr.

about my toefl scores, really? so that means i have to repeat the whole exam? i took the toefl ibt and my over-all score was quite good (the reading part totally saved my @ss hehehe) but only got a fair mark on the speaking part, and in that website for the visascreen it says that they would only accept a 26 out of 30. i got a 19. so i guess i have to retake the whole exam? :( goodbye 150$ :(

Hello,

sorry for the late response, I've been awfully busy.:o

Anyway,

the CES processing is pretty fast once all of your status reflects as 'received and accepted' or something similar. In my case, it took 2 weeks before my status reflected 'Report Issued' and one more week before I received my copy.

About Pearsonvue's deadline:

Quoting Pearsonvue's e-mail:

"Your NCLEX examination registration will remain effective for a 365-day time period.

Candidates who are not made eligible by their board of nursing within the 365-day time period will forfeit their NCLEX registration and fee."

Day 1 begins when you register.

I suggest registering with Pearsonvue when you feel you're ready ;) and if you used the online method and pay through your credit card, you should get your ATT within a week (Via E-mail):

THIS IS NOT YOUR AUTHORIZATION TO TEST (ATT)

The ATT came in a modest .pdf file.

The Validity of IL ATT is 90 days

Test Validity: " From 11/18/2008 to 2/16/2009 "

Don't feel bad about being a 'bum' after passing. Our skills as a nurse is always useful. Afterall, Nursing is a multidisciplinary course :smokin:

Since you've already started your application process, I strongly advice you to get a copy of Saunder's NCLEX Pyramids 4th Ed and start reading it. It's a wonderful book and (some) review centers are using Saunder's as their reference... I can attest to that.

Most people tell me that IELTS will suffice for the VisaScreen process though I'm not sure of this. There is also no guarantee that IELTS will be easier than TOEFL iBT.

I hope this helps.

Please do not hesitate to msg me if you have any more questions. I'll try to help you to the best of my knowledge.

:)

Pearsonvue have a 12 month eligibility from when you sign up, better to wait for eligibility from BON before you sign up with them. ATT generally doesn't take long but remember to check junk folder as sometimes it goes in there. VSC take a few different English exams and all information can be found in their handbook on the CGFNS website

thanks jmolina and silverdragon!!! yeah i've read the visa screen handbook and they did say that there is a chance that the english requirement could be waived if it could be seen in my credentials that english was the medium of instruction used. crossing my fingers for that chance!

i never imagined that applying to work abroad would be this hard :(

Sorry, but you are mixed up with this. Illinois has a language requirement, however if your school was 100% in English, then they will waive this requirement for you. If they are accepting the waiver, then CES will not require the English for the CES.

You are getting the CES which is a credentials eval mixed up with the Visa Screen Certificate that requires that you have passed either the CGFNS exam or the NCLEX exam as well as the English exam.

However, do be aware that English is always going to be a requirement in order to the get the Visa Screen Certificate that is needed for immigration. That is a federal requirement is neve waived, unless you come from one of a handful of countries where the entire country has English as their primary language.

Once you meet requirements you will get eligibility to sit NCLEX, pass that find a employer and then join the queue of retrogression once your I140 is submitted and you get approval
