Nurses LPN/LVN

For all you LPN/LVN's out there, was it hard to find a job after graduation? We have 15 weeks left of school and I was just wondering if it took you a while to find a job, I currently work in a pharmacy and I am trying to decide on staying until I find another job or putting my notice in once I finish school to focus on studying for the nclex and then finding a job. Also where was your first job after school? Thanks-SM

I got hired within 5 days after I passed my boards.

I got a nursing job days aftet i finished nursing school....but that was back in 2005......the market sucks now for nursing.

Specializes in Pediatrics.

Depends on where you are, I guess (central FL here). My entire class landed positions immediately, and we all had multiple offers. However, unless someone was a CNA already working at a hospital who made arrangements to transition to LPN, we were all limited to non-hospital jobs. But there was still a decent selection between Pediatric PDN, LTC/skilled nursing and hospice.

When my CNA wife decided to study for LPN I fully supported her by working two jobs and scraped the bottom of our family barrel so to reach her dream, but now that she finally gets her new york state license, I lost my two jobs n she didnt really have the time to land on her dream job. Every nursing home and agency she applied wants one year experience. We cant even pay next month rent, utilities will be cut soon. Why didn't the schools stop teaching LPN if they knew LPN will be phrased out? Why sold us a false dream? Why tell us theres a nursing shortage?[/quote']

Some places there is and others there isn't. Where I live, LPN positions are thriving and plentiful. At the VA hospital here, LPNs are the backbone of the place.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

Same here...had another job within the month; I had two jobs-one in Pedi Home Health, the other at a Rehab Hospital-granted this was in 2005.

It's good to see that there are people getting jobs within 5 days of licensure. It still about location

I graduated LPN school in '08, and live in a rural area on the east coast, USA. Yes, it was very hard to find a decent LPN job after nursing school. I have bounced from job to job, mostly working part time & PRN since...

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

After I took the NCLEX 4 years ago it didn't take long to find a job. Most of my classmates got jobs in LTC. I did the same & also did PDN. Those two areas seem to hire anyone who walks through the door.
