Thanks, DesertRain! The timing of your post was really eerie because I almost didn't sign on to allnurses tonight. Tonight I didn't just have a bad shift; I actually was thinking "Oh, what's the point"... Your post brought a lump to my throat. Guess I'll be back tomorrow to fight once more!

Your welcome guys, it means a lot to me that it gave a little inspiration to those who may have needed it like I did when I read it the first time. I tell myself that sometimes I may not be as smart or as successful as I would like to be but being a quitter is not something I want on my life itinerary.
Mods can we make this a sticky?? (not sure if there are certain "sticky rules" before something can be stickied)
Thanks DesertRain, this is great.
I haven't been in good spirits for the past couple of weeks, I take the NLN in 18 days, and i kept thinking whats the point, i put all of this work in and then not pass and not get in, or even if i did do well i won't get apcepted. Some really negative thoughts, anyway, this poem really does lift your spirit.

You are welcome Mystiqx. If they can't make it a sticky than just copy and paste it and print it--keep it with you (like folded up in your wallet) or pin it up somewhere to see--I have it on my bulletin board by my desk at home so I glance over at it every time I feel down.
Also, don't worry so much about the NLN, put in as much as you can without making yourself get crazy and go for it. Mostly every one says it's something you really can't study for, you either know it or you don't...so basically just review so you can remember it better when you get there. I take mine on February 3rd too so I hear ya--it's pretty scary but I am not going to let myself get crazy over it!

i found this poem a while back. i'm sure some of you have heard it or read it before but it really brought tears to my eyes and encouragement at a time i needed it the most. please read it and don't give up!
when things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
when the funds are low and the debts are high,
and you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
when care is pressing you down a bit,
rest! if you must; but don't you quit.
life is queer with its twists and turns,
as everyone of us sometimes learns,
and many a failure turns about
when he might have won had he stuck it out;
don't give up, though the pace seems slow;
you might succeed with another blow.
often the goal is nearer than
it seems to a faint and faltering man,
often the struggler has given up
when he might have captured the victor's cup.
and he learned too late, when the night slipped down,
how close he was to the golden crown.
success is failure turned inside out;
the silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
and you never can tell how close you are,
it may be near when it seems afar;
so stick to the fight when you're hardest hit;
it's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

wishing all of you the best for this year and please don't quit!
