FNP program options for low GPA

Published

I'm a seasoned RN BSN for 21 yrs. My overall is a 2.99 (very frustrating since some schools will not even consider me). I would prefer not taking the GRE if that's option. Some school that sound promising seem quite expensive $$. Any suggestions?

Are your math & science credits older than 10 yrs? You may need to retake some classes. If so that will give you the opportunity to raise the GPA. There are plenty of programs that do not require the GRE. I intentionally applied to one that did not require it. Good Luck!

I have never heard of a reputable program that would let you in with that GPA and no GRE ect........ what steps are you taking to be more successful this time around?

Well I attend Loyola University New Orleans. It was in the top schools of the south. I did not have to take the GRE. I do not appreciate your insinuation!

In fact EvolvingRN there are past threads on programs that do not require the GRE. Maybe time to look that up.

Mom to 4, I don't think she was insinuating that you are attending an inferior institution, but that to seek a program that doesn't require a GRE AND allows for a low GPA might not be a great thing. It wasn't like a direct attack against you.

I thought she meant a program that would not require the GRE since the OP's GPA is so poor.

It's going to take quite a few As before the OP will be able to substantially raise that GPA. I hope whatever the barriers were for her to succeed the first time, they're resolved now.

I have a friend who is enrolled in a Master's program that required no GRE and their GPA requirement was 3.0. However, she only had a 2.9. So there are programs out there.

@Gem0607 Do you know the program she is enrolled in?

clarksoncollege in omaha is a great NP school that requires a 3.0 and may grant an exceptioN! check into them!. i am going there now.

Skwhites09, Capella. She said she had to write a mini paper about her goals and had two people write recommendations for her.

michellern--have you actually spoken to schools that require 3.0? It's ridiculous that a school with that requirement would not make an exception for someone with so much experience. A 2.99 with 20+ years experience is much different from a new nurse 2.99. Sounds like their priorities are askew. ( Yeah, what else is new, right?)
