Currently, two organizations certify family nurse practitioners in the United States, ANCC and AANP. I really think having two certifying bodies is a fragmentation in the Consensus Model.
Do you think ANCC and AANP should standardize FNP certification by administering one national examination?
(PS: I take my ANCC board exam next week! )

What consensus model? The whole plan sorta died.

It did? Does mean we can get back the roles and certifications that were "retired" because they didn't fit into the New World Order??
I disagree. I think that the APRN Consensus Model has actually been very influential in shaping advanced practice.
I believe though having 1 exam for the same specialty certification should be discussed in the next Consensus Model roundtable update.

the boards will probably at some time, weigh the options of having one vs two and whatever one accounts for them getting more money will win.
yeah
Maybe having a monopoly on one FNP certification exam will give them more money + power. í ½í¸¬

I took both so that if they were ever consolidated that I was covered. Did not want to retake it if for some reason they went with the version I did not take. In fact, during my interview process the group interviewing me were impressed that I had passed both.
Cool, that's awesome. That would be a good reason to take both exams, looks good on the resume. Did you find one of them harder or easier?
I thought the ANCC was more difficult. I actually thought that I had not passed while taking it. There were a lot of research based questions that I literally guessed on. I don't feel like the ANCC reflects our knowledge base. The AANP was all clinical knowledge questions. ANCC also had select all that apply, labeling, matching, and look at the picture then give the diagnosis.

I think consolidation of both exams would be best- of course with the stipulation that all current certified NPs are grandfathered into whichever certifying body would still exist.

I took them both and to be honest i did not think one was tougher than the other. I was more nervous and anxious during the AANP one as I took it first so sitting for the ANCC I was not so tense. I did score better on the ANCC.
I never received my score from the ANCC. I called and they told me that scores are only given to those that did not pass. I did receive my score from the AANP.
