Flu-shot Nurses

Hello everyone! I'm a new member and I'm looking to hear from nurses who have done flu-shot clinics. I am interested in giving immunizations during the flu season, as a way to make extra money. Anyone had experience in this? I just need to know if I should go through a staffing agency or contact the store where the clinic is being offered? I know flu season is several months away, but I want to find out what I need to do so I'll be ready when the time comes. Any suggestions?

When I was working as an LPN, they tried to pay me $16 an hour and I said no, the least I'd take was $20 an hour and they paid it.

As an RN last season I made $25/hr. Low in general for rn, but it's really a giant piece of cake.

I did flu shot clinics for years as a part of an occupational health nurse pool. My region has a lot of Occ Health clinics and would maintain internal pool RNs for flu season. It was very easy money.

The first time I did clinics, the pay was $10/hr. Have not seen that particular company around since then. In my area some of the companies that did clinics have stopped doing them since the fiasco with shortages in 2005. That pretty much leaves only Maxim and one or two others from year to year. You have to watch for the ads in the paper for when the companies start hiring for the season.

companies work like that?

I am licensed and have worked in both states. I contact Interfit where I am and they will give me the availability based upon the zip code of where I am. I understand that they do the clinics nationally at WalMarts and Sam Clubs. I think they go under another name right now and they are not a roving company-main office based in Houston. Their main service is lab work, like Quest.

I am currently working flu shot clinics in western NC and making $15.50/hr through Maxim. It's not much but I am really enjoying the work. It's easy and I love the interactions with people. I worked the birthing center of our hospital as a new grad and had to leave after several weeks of trying to work nights and being physically unable to sleep during the day. It was a tough lesson and really did a number on my confidence, so this has been a nice way to practice nursing without feeling overwhelmed. I am applying for jobs in MD offices as opposed to the hospital and am confident something will come through. For now the flu shot clinics are a good thing.
