Probly just not the strain you were vaccinated for. There is a lot of the throat stuff going around this spring. Ive had it 3 times myself already, laryngitis, cough, bronchial symptoms. And i got a flu shot too.
Just be careful that it doesnt go into a bronchial pneumonia, go to the doctor if it doesnt start getting better soon.
Hope you feel better.
The incidence of influenza just peaked in my area during the first and second week of February. If you just became sick, you can go to your doctor and have a rapid influenza test done. If it's positive you might be able to start on some antivirals and shorten the duration of your illness.
Hope you feel better.
That sore throat thing is really hitting hard around here too. It's not influenza, not strep throat.....it's just some kind of cruddy virus...uggghhh. Half of our facility has been out with it so far. I thought I was escaping from it...but unfortunately came down with it Monday night. It's now Friday and I'm still feeling the wrath of it... Our symptoms around here are sore throat, cough, fever, body aches....ugggghhhhh. I had a strep test run because I have the white spots on my tonsils...both the rapid and culture have come up negative. I can't wait for Summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Hope everyone else that's feeling poorly gets well soon...

Thanks. Whatever it is it sure sucks bigtime to be sick.Nurses don't get sick(ha). Aren't there some serious side effects to those antiviral meds? Is it worth it to get them?
Uuuugh!!! All I have to say is that it it is the flu you will KNOW it. I had it about 2 years ago along with my dd (2 1/2 at the time). It was one of the worst things I have ever had. The body aches. Eeek!!! Ohh... and lets also mention the fact that I was nursing a 6 week old at the time as well. Oh... and I felt like s*#t for over a week.
My understanding with the antivirals is that you have to start them within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms. I don't know that they'll do you much good now.
Good luck! I hope it's short lived and you're soon back on your feet.

How long is the flu season? I got a flu shot way back in Octob/early Nov. Can this be the flu I have now in the end of Februrary? Malaise ,sore throat(ouch) fever 102, aches(back and sternum). Did I get vaccinated too early?
Sounds like it to me. Of course I KNOW when to go to the doc, but not for the flu.
Bummer .
