Flu season still here?

Published

How long is the flu season? I got a flu shot way back in Octob/early Nov. Can this be the flu I have now in the end of Februrary? Malaise ,sore throat(ouch) fever 102, aches(back and sternum). Did I get vaccinated too early?

Sounds like it to me. Of course I KNOW when to go to the doc, but not for the flu.

Bummer .

Do flu symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea?

Mom23, you are right, I KNOW its the Flu. How can a persons foot hurt one minute then pain under the armpit the next. Defenitely flu.

Aussiepupowner, I am not sure about the vomiting thing. I had a bit of queasyness yesturday but no vomiting.

Influenza is a RESPIRATORY illness, but according to the CDC website it can cause tummy problems and vomiting, but usually more so in kids than in adults. You just might be a fortunate :clown: exception to the "rule", you lucky dog...

Hope all you folks feel better soon. I've got an inner ear infection myself and am fighting with vertigo (which is what made me go to the doctor this morning - I didn't even know I had the thing and I have NEVER experienced true vertigo; I mean, I just missed hitting the floor so thank GOD I was standing by the bed when it started) and nausea, which I theorize is due to the vertigo.

Influenzae has not hit in northern Minnesota yet. At least not that I have heard. Usually is is gone and past. We are still giving flu shots though. Mostly second booster doses to babies and small children. Yes, the sore throat stuff is also going around. About 50% of sore throats now are positive. Strep is really bad now. RSV seems to be at its peak also. I believe I have seen about 25 positve cases in infants and toddlers in the last few weeks. Overall, I think it has been a bad winter for illness. More than I can remember. Well, take your vitamins and get LOTS of rest. That is about all you can do for yourself. Oh yeah, wash your hands! lol

My sister called tonight with 102 fever, chest hurting, skin hurting, chills, could barely talk cause she was so weak. Told BIL to get her to emergency room NOW. She called a couple hours ago...she has....Pneumonia, Bronchitis and The Flu.....AINT THAT A *****!!!!! They gave her Rocephin, 1000ml iv fluids(was so dehydrated her veins kept collapsing while they were trying to get the IV started), and ZPac. Said she couldn't get Tamiflu since she got sick over 24 hours ago...Oh and he gave her codeine for her chest pain. So yes, flu season is still here...

That's why I don't get the flu vaccine at all. I did that about 13 years ago and got so sick i thought I was gonna die. I've only gotten the flu a couple of times since then.

It is hot and heavy here....our peds floors are full of flu and RSV, our adult floors are full of flu people. Seems that the vaccine wasn't the right one this year...go figure!

That's a bummer. I remember the first 3-4 days being the worst. After that it was generalized fatigue from being in bed for days on end (I wish). It did actually take almost 2 full weeks before I was feeling "normal" again.:o

I was laughing at your remark about pain in the foot and then in the arm pit. :roll. That stuff was by far the worst body aches I had ever experienced in my life. It literally felt as if I had been lying in bed for a month and had never been moved.

Hope you're feeling better tomorrow!!!

What is wrong with my doctor? I am so disappointed in him and have had it with him despite his being almost brilliant.

After the past 4 plus days of fevers which were over 102 for 3 days and 101 last night I finally decide I better go in today just in case its not the flu. I have several areas of whitish exudate in my throat, a sore throat, and most recently started with "cold" symptoms(cough and congested). So this doc(I was his 21st patient in 2 hours) doesn;t even give me a chance to tell whats wrong. I suggested a strep test and he ok'd it but didn't think it was. Then a peek in my throat and nose and then off to the lab. After her said the test was neg and I had a cold. I had to keep my cool by saying "Excuse me but does a cold produce severe exhastion, high fevers and chills, and swollen lymph nodes?". I was truly devastated and sad. What happened to assessment skills? I know he is a competent doctor but he was negligent with me. What if I hadn't been a nurse? Would he have assessed more. I am a patient when I am there, informed, but still a patient.

Oh well. Good news is the fever is getting better(only have it late in the day and at night) and I can sort of swallow now too!

Too bad that tomorrow I have a colonoscoy prep of Golyte for Wednesday:crying2:

Some weekend. Ok I am SORRY I am WHINING so much. I apologize.

Thanks for the well wishes above.

Well it seems this is the second year they screwed up with the strains in the flu shot :( The flu shot can help, but I think once people get it they sometimes become lax and stop washing hands, etc thinking they are 100% protected (when no vaccine is--and for some people they don't work at all). I know that is how my parents are.

Anyways, the flu is HORRIBLE! My 7 year old got it for the first time in her life last month and was crying for god to make her better, she was just miserable but thankfully it only lasted 4 days (my experience it usually lasts longer). Thankfully none of the rest of us caught it from her (hers was type A just for reference).

For those of you suffering with the flu right now I hope you get well soon ((hugs)) it's no fun.
