My district has recently seen a rise in Flu cases among our students. There has been some discussion that some students may be returning to school too soon, placing others at risk. The CDC recommends 24 hours fever free before returning to school. Other sources recommend 48 hours fever free, even if Tamiflu is prescribed.
What are your policies regarding when a student may return to school after a Flu diagnosis?

The same. I haven't had to enact it, to my knowledge. With any KNOWN FLU (emphasis) cases, the kids are usually out for awhile after the fever part has passed.

My acute care facility isolates for up to 5 days with Tamiflu on board. I can't imagine a kid ready to return until day 4 or 5 at the least, even with Tamiflu. I would call your state health department for guidance.

Had a kid that was dx'd day before yesterday and was back today. He felt horrible (understandably so) so I sent him home. Too soon in my opinion.
My State Health Department follows CDC guidelines and the 24 hour rule. We have students on TamiFlu returning to school within 2-3 days of diagnosis. I guess my concern is that even though Tamiflu reduces the viral load and relieves Flu symptoms, such as fever, a student who is fever free for 24 hours might still be contagious.
I just couldn't fathom coming back that soon. I would think 5 days at the soonest. I am going to call my local public school and see what their policy, if any, is. I just discussed it with my Principal and she agreed that 48 hours would be a better benchmark. This is my first flu season, but we have dodged the bullet, though one sibling who doesn't attend here has Scarlet Fever.

Our rule is fever free x24 hours without the use of medication. The few that I have had diagnosed with the flu the doctors have been writing notes may return to school after 5 days.
