Florida required fingerprinting is confusing

Hello, I live and work in Indiana and applied for a Florida nursing license about 6 weeks ago.

Funny thing is that now that state board requires electronic fingerprinting and as of Jan 1, 2013 no longer accepts cards, according to the letter they sent me.

When I checked their list of approved providers of electronic fingerprinting and made an appointment, on arrival the staff said they do not provide this service for out of state.

They went to the website and saw for themselves they were listed. So one person, called another and another person called another and I left there not knowing anything.

I rechecked the approved list and found another provider who would not listen to me,would not even look at my papers or take the number for the ORI for endorsement. It has been a week and nothing yet.

I paid 40 dollars for electronic fingerprinting that may not do any good. There is no email address for livescan in order to send a question.

Question is, Has anyone applied for Florida licensure under this new rule this year and how did you get it. I can't keep traveling from place to place all over the state to find someone who knows what they are doing. Any advice would be well appreciated.

Have you talked to a licensing agent for the state of Florida?

I don't think Livescan is going to have the info you need.

Call the state.

I spent some more hours on this yesterday. Here's is how I think it works now. Florida says they do not take card fingerprints and livescan says they don't send them electronically. So what you have to do is go onto Morphotrust website and register as Florida nonresident, you must go to the Florida registry. Do not go to your own state! Then you pay about 90.00 dollars online, you must write down the numbers you are given because these numbers must be on your finger print card. Next you have to go the sheriffs office and have your fingerprints done on a card. (Florida does not take, right? but wait....), You may need to pay for this service or not, I did not have to. Then you take the card and make sure that the correct ORI number is on there and that on the reference line you write your confirmation number as proof as payment to Morphotrust. Morphotrust will give you an address to mail your card to, at this location they will scan you card into an electronic format and submit it to Florida. You can'[t bend your card, it must be in a large firm envelope, and in my case I mailed it to an address in Florida. Apparently after it is scanned then sent to the state it takes about 72 hours.

I can hardly believe that it took me hours and hours to find this out, no one tells you. You have to put the pieces together yourself.

The dumb dumb that took my prints before didn't care one iota, wouldn't even answer my questions or pay any mind at all.

Florida says they need nurses but make it difficult to get a license. Doesn't make any sense to me.

I'll let everyone know how it goes. If I can spare someone else from going through all this garbage I will.

What a convoluted and ridiculous mess...

I'm not surprised, either!

That's government agencies for you.

That is crap that the vendor would not even try to steer you in the right direction, but they could have been confused themselves (though not an excuse to blow you off completely).

I am a printer and I've had more than my fair share of frustrations with the state.

Information sometimes can be conflicting and vague... and getting clarification can be a joke.

I'm glad you know what to do now and will make note of your story for future reference.

hi forest4, im having a hard time figuring out what to do it my fingerprint.im glad i found this forum. So first is register and pay to Morphotrust and then they will send the fingerprint cards and then just mail it back to them? Can i go to ups instead of police office? How about the picture requirement?

I need help too... I have the same problem right now, I just wanna ask, whats the use of ORI by examination given by the Florida board of nursing when the time I registered as Non resident, they already gave the ORI no.

Hoby, how's your application going?

Oh i got it now, CRI is just the same as ORI...

I don't know if this thread is still active. But would you please help me regarding to my livescan fingerprinting? I chose the morphotrust too. And I already paid them. How many days would I wait for them to send me the card thing? And what's my next step after that? Thank you.

Live scan usually means you go to a morpho fingerprint center and have digital prints (most accurate as you know if they are acceptable right there). You make an appointment after you pay

Live scan specifically refers to in person prints. Morpho only does for instate agencies even though they are a multistate company. Did you check the FL BoN website? If you live more than a specified distance from the state border you have to do ink prints (often only acceptable from PD or sheriffs office) but know the risk of rejection is higher and processing can take an additional 4-6 weeks because the cards must be perfect upon arrival at the center and scanned with manual verification. Some police & sheriff departments charge a fee for fingerprinting.
