Florida required fingerprinting is confusing

Published

Hello, I live and work in Indiana and applied for a Florida nursing license about 6 weeks ago.

Funny thing is that now that state board requires electronic fingerprinting and as of Jan 1, 2013 no longer accepts cards, according to the letter they sent me.

When I checked their list of approved providers of electronic fingerprinting and made an appointment, on arrival the staff said they do not provide this service for out of state.

They went to the website and saw for themselves they were listed. So one person, called another and another person called another and I left there not knowing anything.

I rechecked the approved list and found another provider who would not listen to me,would not even look at my papers or take the number for the ORI for endorsement. It has been a week and nothing yet.

I paid 40 dollars for electronic fingerprinting that may not do any good. There is no email address for livescan in order to send a question.

Question is, Has anyone applied for Florida licensure under this new rule this year and how did you get it. I can't keep traveling from place to place all over the state to find someone who knows what they are doing. Any advice would be well appreciated.

From the FL BoN:

Applicants who reside outside of the State of Florida must have their prints taken on a hard fingerprint card and contact an approved Livescan service provider who converts cards.

If you need hard cards please contact the board office.

Applicants can use any FDLE approved Livescan service provider to submit their fingerprints. The applicant is fully responsible for selecting the service provider and ensuring the results are reported to the board office. For more information, FAQs, and a list of all approved Livescan service providers please visit the Department's website. Please take the Nursing Electronic Fingerprint Form with you to the Livescan provider. Please check the service provider's requirements to see if you need to bring any additional items. Please verify the ORI number submitted by the Livescan service provider matches the information provided by the Florida Board of Nursing.

Just went through this last week. I'm out of state and was waiting for hard cards, but saw a random post on here about a national livescan company called Fieldprint. If you go through the company's Florida website you can make an appointment at a fingerprinting location nationwide (usually a ups/fed ex kind of store). I got my license issued 3 business days after the livescan. There's a very detailed thread somewhere on allnurses that explains exactly how to make the appointment, super helpful.

Alright thank you for the responses. Meaning to say? Should I wait for the hard card finger print something from morphotrust then go to any locations doing live scan? Or should I ask the livescan provider (sheriff dept) if they are accepting fingerprint ink services then covert it into a electronic live scan? I'm really sorry I'm so slow to this process :(

If Morpho does not require anything more than a standard FBI card, the site often has them. Don't assume all sheriff departments are providers for non-affiliated individuals. Many only fingerprint for staff or for local agencies and not out of state entities. Inquire first.

I just had to do this..

I went to a local Live scan (UPS store) and they were unable to help me...

So I went to the floridahealth.gov/licensing-and-regulation/background-screening/index

clicked on Fieldprint and was able to get an appointment here locally in SoCal (click on the out of state link). It is a little pricey but still much cheaper than a plane ticket

I am from Louisiana. I applied to Florida state board of nursing RN. I went and had my fingerprints done at a livescan service provider. They did the electronic fingerprints charged me 60 dollars and only gave me a PSI print case Id number, How do I get the results sent to Florida state board as they act like they do not have a clue how to send to them ? Confused

HI monkienurse! Did you figure it out? I am planning to get my license from Florida by examination once I graduate in Pennsylvania.
