Hospitals and pay around Miami

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi,

I will be graduating May 2006 (and it won't come too soon). Planning to relocate to the Miami area. Last week, spring break, I talked to the nursing recruiter at Aventura hospital - he said they have a 6 week classroom preparation followed by a 6-12 month preceptorship for new grads, this sounded really good to me. Plus, the hospital looked really nice inside and outside. I didn't ask about pay and didn't have time to visit any other hospitals.

Could you all please share the good, the bad, and the ugly, on Miami area hospitals, and if you know, how much they start new grads at?

Thanks,

Alex

Hey emab, not sure if you noticed, but the year of the OP was 2005. Seems this thread is pretty old. Not sure if the pay has changed much since then though.

I agree. the pay has not changed much. at baptist it is actually the same.

at kendall regional is $22/hr with a 4-5 night differential

at miami children's it is $22.53/hr with a 4-6 night diff

no the average base pay for starting Rn's is $23 Lpn's $17-19

where do you work?!! because I would like to apply there!!

I am getting $22.53 and that is the highest pay I have heard after applying and interviewing at several other hospitals.

Doesn't seem like very much for all the stress in nursing school.

I agree..

I also agree with that!!! Way too much stress, work load, legal problems, hours and very little pay!!

i do have to agree with you that with the cost of living now adays, specially here in miami it is not a lot of money.

i chose this career not for the money but for the satisfaction that i would be helping other people.

pediatrics to me is my calling. and i knew in my heart that i was going to be an rn for my life.

i will make probably about $53k per year before taxes.

and to me, that is pretty good for an associate's degree.

i honestly do not know of another career that you make $53k/year with an associates degree.

a bachelor's in psychology= nothing

sociology=nothing

business=nothing.................. every other career you need to get a master's degree.

miami cost of living sucks, everyone gets paid less here than in other states.:o

but right now, i am super happy because i am making $27/hr for night shift. which is a lot compared to what i used to make as a cashier $6.50/hr or a cna $10.50/hr

I guess that depends if you have experience or not. because I know people who work there, and they get $21/hr.... but then again, we just finished school and got our licenses a couple of months ago.
