I'm applying to this school and I'm wondering if anyone that is a current or former student can give me a general idea of what to expect, such as how exams are taken, workload, which courses were more difficult, etc? What did you think of the program overall?
I'm thinking I'll be ok once I finish statistics but I'd like to speak with anyone willing to share. Thank you!
I graduated before there was a service learning requirement, I think that must have come with the next round of grads.
FHCHS is a Seventh Day Advitist school, but the religious componant is pretty minimal. Many chat sessions begin with a short prayer. The religious classes I was required to take included "Lessons on Living," which was really a fascinating bible study course. We would read some passages from the bible and then discuss what meanings might we be able apply to our lives. Specifically, I remember discussing the "golden rule." "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." Our instructor emphasised that the passage tells us to DO something, do good, it does not tell us to "Don't do unto others what you don't want them to do to you." Part of this class involved a project, I chose to attend an AA meeting and found it very valuable and eye opening.
We also had to take a world religions class. I loved this class. I really enjoyed studying about Hinduism and Buddhism. The whole religion componant concerned me to start with, but there was never any suggestion of converting people, and a strong emphasis was placed on learning about other religions and cultures.
How were the religion classes? And what about the service learning requirement? The way I understand it is that I can use my hospital or my local health department to meet the rquirments. Is that right?I sincerely appreciate all of you taking the time to answer my questions.
Our classwork, teaching projects, etc. met the service requirement. But this seems to be a new thing and I might have been grandfathered in. But yes, all the requirements for any of the classes such as leadership and community health are done locally. In community health we had two teaching projects and had to take pictures to prove we were giving the class. I gave a class on men's health to a bunch of my friends in my own home, and one on impaired nurses at work. Stuff like this was counted our our service work. But like I said, they might have changed things.
The religion courses were very easy and I enjoyed the instructor. They do not promote their religion at all, but know that they are a Christian school and their mission is the Christian perspective. But basically they just teach the courses. Even the Lessons On Living, the instructor presented the Bible, but didn't necessary preach an agenda.
I'm currently enrolled in FHCHS. This is only my second semester and, unfortunately, I can't answer many of your questions, but I can say that I'm happy with it so far. It's pretty flexable & the staff has been great. Statistics was an easy A and I'm the worlds worst when it comes to math! There were alot of questions each week, but the quizzes came almost verbatum from those questions. The chat's are offered at various times several days a week, so it's pretty easy to choose what works for you. If you have to take it, english 101 was a breeze, but 102 is a bit more involved. All classes, even statistics, involves a great deal of writting and all require the APA format. I did purchase the writting program that Tweety previously suggested and I can tell you it's already paid for itself! It definately saves time in formatting your papers. Anyway, all my best to you!
Thanks for the additional info!
I looked on Amazon for Reference Point but it only brought up a few APA books. Where did you purchase the program?
Also, can you pick different chat times each week or must you do the same chat time each week?
They are still waiting for one of my reference forms so I haven't been "officially" accepted yet. I think my first class will begin on May 5.
Thanks again!
even though i will have a bachelors degree in another area and i will have 2 associate degrees when it is time to apply...i do not have one religion class. do they offer these there or will i need to take them at my community college and transfer them in? i am getting aggressive now with looking for a bsn program need to get the plan of action in place .
i use reference point for mla and apa. i wrote about 25 papers last semester and this saved my rear end. it takes about 85% of the hassle out of writing.
each program is right at $28 for me it has paid for itself over and over again.

Whatever chat you choose is what you'll have for the duration of that course, however, I have seen instances in 2 of my courses where students did end up having problems with what they chose and e-mailed the instructor, but it's not something that will change from week to week.
FHCHS does require and offer a World Religions course. I'm not sure, but they may offer others as well. I just know of this one for sure because I eventually have to take it.

they offer most of the co-req courses including the religion requirements, chemistry, statistics, world civ. among others, all online.
good luck in finding a program that works for you. this one is nln certified, so you can later add a masters your your many degrees. lol
