I'm applying to this school and I'm wondering if anyone that is a current or former student can give me a general idea of what to expect, such as how exams are taken, workload, which courses were more difficult, etc? What did you think of the program overall?
I'm thinking I'll be ok once I finish statistics but I'd like to speak with anyone willing to share. Thank you!
I know this post is old but maybe one of the current students has even graduated by now. I am sooo interested in this school for RN-BSN, as it's a school choice when I apply for CRNA/MSN as well.
As for hounding, the advisor I talked to was awesome--I am pre-nursing at my community college just doing my prereq's, not even accepted for my ADN yet and she gave me the list of prereq's I'll need for my BSN, descriptions of classes, et cetera. Told me I could send her descriptions of my current classes to see if they would count, like humanities maybe counting for religion cleass . . . I asked if I could contact her each semester I have an "extra" spot (taking 12 credits or so every semester til I can apply for RN next summer). She said contact her anytime, sent me all info I needed to know, sent me list of classes, as I said, that I can work on before applying if I can get them done ahead, which ones she advised might be easier to do BEFORE doing online (chemistry and English --02 by the way). And after those couple days of emailing back and forth that was it, no bugging me at all.
I just got a laptop for my online classes at the community college, most of them are online til nursing, so because it has Vista I have Word 2007 and you can choose MLA format, APA, and some others when you're in your document, pretty cool, click and your little footnote/cite is there at bottom of page. But I have no experience with Gordon Rule, starting in 2 weeks for my English, is this gonna be enough or do I need something more? I think for my ADN they want MLA, so will this be good for now and BSN? or should I get that other thing, sorry I already forgot the name, for all I know something could change anyway by the time I'm done with ADN.
But it's wonderful to know somebody has "survived" Florida Hospital's RN-BSN, writing is me easy thing and math is not, so I'm really happy to hear what y'all had to say, just seems too good to be true, so it must be harder than it sounds.
I will be starting the online RN-BSN at Fhchs next month. Have any of you ever taking two classes per 7/8 weeks. I know it is a lot of writing, but is it doable? I only need 46 credit to get my BSN, so I was hoping that I can take 6 credits (2 classes) per 8 week courses. Any advice will help.

Yes, I've taken 2 classes at a time. Because of all the writting, it's intense, but doable. If you're planning on taking 2 classes per 7 weeks does that mean you want to do a total of 4 classes per semester? Just wondering because there are 4 core nursing courses that run the entire 14 week session and 3 of them are only offered in certian semesters...kinda makes working out the schedule a little difficult. Judging by my books, I figure next semester is really gonna be a bear for me...I have 10 credit hours to look forward to...but this, too, shall pass!!!! I have 3 semesters down and 4 to go...hoping to have this done by fall '09. :wink2:
Thanks for posting HLFPNT,
I will be taking statistic and professional nursing the first half of the semester, and on the second half starting on 10/27 I will be taking Health & wellbeing and pharmacology. I am aiming at finishing in the spring of 2010. I know that it is going to take a lot of work, but I am mentally in that zone right now, and when I am focus, I am just that...focus. Thanks for telling me about those 14 week courses, because I had to rework my schedule so I can get statistic out of the way. I noticed that one of the 14 week course is offered in January, but statistic is a prereq to take it. Thank God I didn't need may of the other classes, but I do need three of the 14 weeks. Having that info help me because I can take the classes in a sequence that will not prevent me from rerouting my plan. How do you like the program? I took two online courses before, and to me they are just as involve as a classroom class, if not more.

You're welcome. I'm curious which one of the four 14 week courses you don't have to take and why because it's my understanding that all 4 are core nursing courses and are required to graduate. Stats and concepts will keep you pretty busy, both are fairly time consuming...it'd be a good idea to brush up on grammar and APA before concepts starts...the instructor grades pretty heavily on those. I also have pharm the second half of next semester. I'm happy with the program so far...no major complaints. I much prefer distance learning over the class room setting. It takes more self discipline, but I like the thought of being in the comfort of my own home.

You are right. I have to take four instead of 3 of the 14 week courses. I was talking about not having to take chemistry, but there was a class that I did not see before. Thanks again. Give me an example of how many papers you had to do for one class in particular.
It varies with each course...some courses will have a paper due every week, some will have at least 2 major papers, some have projects with papers, but all (so far that I've had) will have weekly postings on a discussion board with peer responses. However, the postings aren't as bad as it sounds...it's just a matter of keeping up with them. I usually print out the course schedules, make a "due date" calendar and check things off as I get them done...makes it easier to keep up with in my opinion.
Hello,
I'm new to this site, but I have really enjoyed reading your comments. I am planning to start the RN to BSN at FHC soon. I have a BS in another line, and also a Mater's. I don't currently work in a patient care setting, but my administrative position requires a nursing backgroung. Getting my BSN is just something I want to do. Anyway, does anyone, who has attended FHC have any words of wisdom?
Hi,
I like the school. The format is simple, but you must stay on top of your classes. There's a lot of writing involve, but I like to write. You have to chat for one hour a week, but the topics are interesting enough for you to really get involve. If there's anyway I can help, let me know.
