Flight Nurse Book Called Trauma Junkie

Published

Hey all,

I'm currently reading Trauma Junkie: Memoirs of an Emergency Flight Nurse by Janice Hudson. I'm loving it right now. I wanted to throw it out here as an option for learning more information about flight nursing or at least for providing some entertaining reading if anybody wanted to check it out.

If you've read it, what did you think of it?

Personally I loved it. It gives you a small peak into there world and teaches you some lessons along the way (the infected umbilical cord).

Really cool book, read it in 2 days.

Reading it now, love it!

Thanks for the heads up... Got the book and I'm super hooked on it! Great stories, although most were written in the '90's.

Are there any flight nurses who have read this? Curious to know if the book is accurate to current practice/calls/experience.

Again, thanks for the recco!

 Very well written. So many of the stories and situations I can relate to...
Specializes in CCU/MICU.

I read it when I first became a flight nurse. It was really good, but really focuses on the urbanized area... I work in a more rural area, so the way our flights work is a little different. :)

Specializes in Urgent Care.

I absolutely loved it! It added to my motivation for wanting to become a flight nurse, and I shall, just gotta keep going. I just finished my EMT-B and am on our local EMS. One more step in the right direction.

Specializes in ER/Trauma, ICU (All types), CCT.

I enjoyed reading the book! It was well written and kept me interested!

I came across this book by accident at the library and read it in two days as well... I'm a student alone with two kids, so that tells you it is a must read! :) I'm still just studying nursing (with LPN and other experience) but am really feeling drawn to the ED and flight nursing.. totally motivating.

Just finished reading it, absolutely loved it. I'd heard of it years ago and stuck it on my "to read list" but never got round to it. Recently spotted it on my friend's bookcase and decided to sneak off with her copy :-DStayed up 'til 4am reading this morning, read more at work on my break, and came home and finished it tonight. And I'm not really a reader. But it was impossible to put down. If I didn't have to work today, I would have stayed up til sunrise finishing it!Just wish it was longer :-D

Specializes in med-surg.

Loved it!

The scene when she shares a motel room on call with her coworker is hilaaaaaarious!

I read the first edition, and then the second printing which includes an update on her life 10 years later.
