FIU Nursing admission requirements

Published

Hi, I am currently a student at UCF. I had a life-changing event this spring semester, and unfortunately I had to withdraw from Human Anatomy and I received an NC for Chemistry. However, I received a C in the Chemistry lab, but that is unacceptable at UCF and I will have to retake it.

I am looking into the possibility of transferring from UCF to FIU. But, I felt a little discouraged when I read this on their nursing admission requirements:

  • No repeats in required science courses because of failure (C- or below) and all science courses completed within the past 10 years.
  • Successfully complete HESI - A2 exam

I am looking for more information of current FIU students on how this requirement may affect me and the possibility of joining the nursing program there.

If I received an NC for Chem and a W in Anatomy is this considered failure and will this prevent me from getting accepted? Also, is receiving a C in chemistry lab acceptable? My current GPA is a 3.5. I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Hi there...

Just got accepted into the FIU Generic program and will start this Fall, however I have already taken two courses there and am already familiar with the school...

Their grading system uses a +/- starting with A between (93-100%) A- (91-92), B+ (89-90) ... C+ (81-82), C (77-80) THIS IS PASSING. Anything below this is considered failing so C- is no good.

So if your school only uses A, B, C then a C is taken as a C (77-80) and ur good whereas if your school uses +/- and you received a C- they just transfer it as is.

A W is not considered a failing grade just a withdrawal and I also had one but then retook and completed the course. It should not affect you at all especially if its another chem not required by their program (the Health Science Chem... )

You have a good GPA and if you actually complete all the prerequisites with good grades it should bump you even more... but do note that they also have two other courses that have to be completed there before applying to the program.

Application deadline for Fall 2010 was May 15,2010 :( just missed...

Hope this helps

Hi! I can't find the FIU prereqs! I was wondering if you knew them or know where to find them online?

interracial/intercultural communication and professional nursing concepts are 2 classes that are requisites, but they say FIU only. are they classes that you can only take once you've been accepted to fiu? I'm not sure how to translate these classes into something i can take here at Indian River State College. Can someone help me out ?

You must take these classes at FIU before being accepted. They are prereqs to the program, not coreqs. I don't know why they do such an awful thing. If you have your AA you can take it as a transient student or apply as a pre nursing student to take the classes. Perhaps they are offered online. I am applying as pre nursing for summer to start fall 2011. What about you?

ive got all the other pre reqs and ill be applying this may so that i may get in by the fall. does that mean during fall ill hafta take these 2 classes before i can get accepted into the program and have to start during spring ??

No it means you would have to take them during summer. There are no spring admissions. If you are done with those prereqs then try to apply for summer term asap.
