which is more effective when it comes to applying for a job? just go directly to the HR or apply online?

i tried speaking with a NM but they told me to apply online. are all job vacancies are posted in the hospital's websites?

Most of the time if you go to HR, they'll point you to the computers in the office and say "apply online" and "all our job vacancies are posted online". Hell, I've even meet HR reps at job fairs who have said "our postings change all the time, so just check our website." I never see HR departments to be terribly useful until they want you for the job. Good luck!

Now everything is mostly online. That's just how most hospitals do their hiring now. Just make sure you check back often on their websites to see if there are any new openings.

My online applications have been ignored so I just stick to applying in person. As long as I get jobs this way I will continue with the practice. Can't see the point to submitting online applications only to have them ignored.

Or worse yet, what always happens to me, I go through the time and effort to apply online, only to be told that I still have to fill out a paper application which expends even more time and effort, and all the info is duplicated anyway. So unless I'm specifically directed to apply online, I always go in person and ask for an application. Saves time in my opinion.

I've had better luck with personal contact. I have several online applications still floating around that apparently have been ignored. However, every job that I have walked in and/or made phone calls in reference to have resulted in an interview and ultimately job offers in the majority of cases.

i went to a job fair too and all HRs would just give you a card with the hospital website and say just check online. i believe in this time of crisis, its now who you know or who referred you.

I think it depends on whether the hospital is actually hiring or not.

I got my new grad job online - apparently, this hospital was actually hiring. As I was applying online, I thought it was a waste of time, but it did pay off. With other hospitals... I attended job fairs, dropped in on HR, and always followed through... and got nowhere.

I'm applied online, and so far I receive the response only from one hospital out of two I applied to,then someone advised me to enroll as hospital volunteer to increase my chances of landing a job.

Consider yourself lucky to have received a 50% response to your online applications. Out of the DOZENS of job apps I've submitted over the past 3-4 months, I think I've only received a human (vs canned auto-response via email) reply for 2-3 of them.

i walked into a local psych hospital and basically got an unofficial interview. the lady called one of the nurse managers down from a unit and she sat down and talked to me for 20 minutes and said she had an opening and for me to call her next tuesday.

screw applying online now.

i was so pumped i went and applied to 4 other hospitals in person in the nashville area.

go in person! they WILL be impressed with your dedication. its not anything negative at all.

and another thing, its better that someone referred you too..
