Salary to expect as a new grad nurse

Nurses New Nurse

Hello all. just reading different threads and wondering what does the starting salary look like for a grad nurse? i live the in Atlanta area so any ball park figure will do. thanks!

Hey, everyone. I am an ASN student starting my second year in August and have been looking at starting nursing pay for new grads both on blogs and other places. Having looked at CT where I live now and Georgia and California where my husband might get transferred, it seems that if you use the Bureau of Labor Statistics web site, the new grad salaries I hear from people on blogs and in person tend to be between the 10th and 25th percentile for BASE pay days, with higher cost of living areas starting closer to the 25th. Obviously, it depends on where you work and there are some generous differentials being offered by some hospitals for night shift ($4-$5/hr I hear) but the website can give you a good estimate and give you an idea of potential earnings w/ experience (median pay). I am going to try to paste a link to use where you can enter your metro area and create custom tables, but if it doesn't work go to BLS.gov and play around.

Hope this helps.:twocents:

I just graduated (south Mississippi) and the internship I was offered starts out at around $20/hr, with 3pm -7pm diff $2.25/hr, after 7pm i think diff is $4.25/hr.

Well this post is 30 pages long so I only made it through about 10 before posting this response -- dont know if anyone posted about MN yet.

Anyway I live in Minnesota and just graduated school in Bemidji. In Bemidji they start at $24 an hour for new RNs. I won't be staying here, so I've been looking around the Minneapolis / St Paul area and they pay around $28 for a new ADN.

In the Metro area cost of living varies. Depending on the neighbourhood you can pay anything from $600/month for a very run down 1 bdrm in the ghetto to $1400 a month and up for a 1 bdrm loft uptown/downtown.

I'm going to stay in MN until I have my BSN completed and then I'm planning on moving somewhere warm and sunny with NO SNOW. :)

SW FL and I'll be starting at 20$hr 5% shift diff 7-11 and 11-7a is 20% so I'll be working nights lol rent isn't bad, it's the cost of buying that's killer right now, sad when it's cheaper to rent then buy :(

I feel your pain. SoFlo is a joke when it comes to compensation. At least SW Florida is cheaper than SE Florida!!5% differential?! I's tell 'em to keep it.

Actually I'm from FL and I just got 25/hr offered at a medical office.

Not bad.

Every area is different. In FL, pretty much the bottom of the totem pole, lol, starting pay for new grads is between $18-$20/hr.

i was a new Grad here in atlanta. The average I saw was about $22. I started out with $21 for days in an Neuro ICU. I know that at some hospitals will pay you more if you dont take the benefits (like I think Grady was starting at 27 with no benefits).

New grad here in Little Rock, AR, working at largest hospital in state and starting out at a whopping $18.90 per hour day shift with no diff's. And that's with 5 yrs of hospital experience, new grad's typically start at $18 with no experience, and same pay for BSN or ADN initially. But other hospitals in the metro area are starting upwards of $19/hr.

I can't' believe the differences in salary across the country. Here in Massashcusetts starting salary for a reg. med/surg new grad position varies from 25/hr to about 30/hr not including shift differentials and you still get benefits. Time to move!

I live in Western Massachusetts, and the starting pay is $28/hr, but add $1.25/hr for second shift, another $1.25 for weekends, and $2.50/hr for 3rd shift. I expect to get hired in my local hospital, but it probably wont be the shift or floor I want. I will take whatever, but then transfer when my dream shift comes up.

I still have to take the boards... end of June most likely.

Hi

I think its really important to go on as many interviews as you can because salaries can vary as much as $5 an hour in an area between hospitals depending on need or buget. I ended up with a job making 28 an hour starting pay for evening shift (25 something plus shift premium). The two other places most of my friends went pay significantly lower but most of them were already working there or only interviewed one place. I went on 6 interveiws, i was exhasted but in the end i got the pay i feel I deserve after all of my hard work.

I live in a town an hour north of atlanta.

Our starting pay at both hospitals is 18.50/hour for a new graduate. (RN).

At the mental health hosipitals its more like $22/hour
