Perfect job for me

Hi All - I just wanted to share just how happy I am with my current job. It's in a MD/Complimentary therapy doctors office. I spend all day starting IV for IV therapies. Since I'm a holistic practitioner I fit right in. I get to use my complimentary education as well as my nursing education on a daily basis. I have only been there around a month and I have already been put in charge of the IV section. I have been given a raise, (at my request). And have been put in charge of implementing a research study for chelation. I am just incredibly excited about this job, I've never been happier and well just WOW! I work Monday thru Thursday. Late on Wednesdays no weekends or holidays. Only problem is it still isn't quite enough pay, and no insurance, but with time both of those will be taken care of. Especially if we generate enough interest with the research study. I just can't tell you how happy I finally am. This is where I want to be, at least until I get my NP behind my name! Even then I think I want to be in the same place.

I just had to share my happiness. It's about time ;)

Congratulations!!!:balloons: Glad to know that nursing is still making people happy. You hear so many complaints. It's a nice change to hear someone happy.

Personally, I am loving my job too. I've been here almost a year. No weekends,holidays or late nights. Works great around the kids too. It's a wonderful feeling when you love getting up and going to work instead of dreading it.

I'm very happy to hear that you are so happy with your new found freedom (new job)!! It's nice to hear that from a new grad, who did not stay on the traditional track. Congrats again!!

I also have the same insurance and benefits (also same pay), as my current position since it's through the same hospital. I also get a laptop, pager, cellphone and a gas allowance. I'm thrilled! I am so looking forward to not having to punch a time clock and so looking forward to my independance!

You will have to let me know how you like home health when you start, I've been considering that in the back of my mind but I also have a lot of fears about it as well. I will keep an eye out for your posts. When do you start?

What area of nursing are you working?

I am in IV therapy for LTC. I work for a LTC pharmacy and I service/resource to any and all our homes that need me. Just like a PICC team, I am M-Fr my hours are 8:30 to 5:00. I only take call when I want to. If I don't want to, I am covered by agency.

I also found that corporate nursing pays better to those of us who have 4-5 years experience than the hospitals do locally. Plus none of the downfalls. And the retirement here is TONS better (meaning there is one-the hospital is 401K only with no employer contribution). I am a VERY HAPPY nurse. :biggringi

what do Home health nurse (RN) do as far as juts doing IV therapy for a patient? I have been approached by this lady at church who works for a home health agency about working for them part time/per diem just doing IV therapy for home bound patients.......only IV and some dressing changes she said, but I'm not too sure exactly what the responsibiities are...she said they offer $40-50 dollars per visit (maybe about 10 visits/patients a day)...Sounds ineteresting but I'd like to hear more feedback from those who are doing home health nursing.....I'd like to take it as a second job........

I am not doing home health. Mine is long term care. Most of those nurses are not terribly comfortable doing IVs (especially starts) But I also place midlines and PICCs. I help with p/p for infusion. I answer a lot of questions regarding flushing, maintenance, dressing changes, etc. I am a resource service from the pharmacy to our homes we send meds to. I am salary (so I can't really remark on the pay). However when I take call, all calls are paid based on distance traveled. (I also get gasoline allowance) So any calls after normal business hours or on weekends/holidays are call pay.

I also do a lot of education in-services on infusion, and anything else that happens to fall in my lap (like low staff--so I go hang a med on a PICC because there is no RN in the house on a Saturday, etc.)

Hope this helps you out. I truly love what I do. Most residents are very glad they can stay in their facility and not be shipped to the hospital for a line. Families are very happy about it too. I find it very rewarding.
