First semester random drug testing time

Published

Hey. Here is a little background, before nursing school I was your typical, college student. I made good grades, was able to go out and have a few drinks, did not have to study too much. One thing was different I enjoyed to smoke weed. Im not a big fan of hanging with all the 'stoners' I would rather have a hit here and there alone, just to relax. Well I gave it up on August 15(for time being) but had a relapse this past weekend. I saw an old friend, and we smoke a little bit. What do you know, we go to class today and the instructor hands us a sheet of paper that says we have 36 hours to submit for our drug test.. Man, did my heart fall out of my chest. Using prayer and water I hope my hardest I can pass this thing. Does anyone know exactly what happens if I dont pass? Thank you!

I would imagine they'd kick you out if you fail :( If it was just that once, you might be okay. You can buy a home test at drug stores to see if you need to take more drastic measures... If it's a hair test, you're SOL.

Around here, most hospitals do hair drug tests now, instead of urine. They're more accurate and can show anything in a 90 day history. If you manage to dodge this bullet, you should keep that in mind. There's no way to get around a hair test.

Good luck

What? They do random drug testing? Wow. Did you know anything about it? Maybe you should check your handbook to find out. They may kick you out.

im pretty sure youll get kicked out if you fail, but if it was just once, drink a lot of water and youll probably be fine, take this as a lesson and dont smoke anymore when you know you may be getting a random drug test.. you can get at home thc dipsticks for a dollar a piece on ebay to see where you stand before you go, but i dont know if you have enough time for that... if its any consolation a friend of mine smoked weed on a monday, had a job interview that wednesday (not expecting a drug test that day) and passed...

personally i think marijuana should be legalized for recreational and medicinal usage, much safer than alcohol and opioids.. but who am i to say? good luck.

Good luck. I used to occasionally/socially smoke but stopped over this summer since learning about getting accepted in my program. Maybe try a detox or drink lots of water. Also, if it is a hair test, I know there ARE ways to get around it, like a special shampoo they make now for it. I never used it, but a friend of mine said his employer does hair tests and he got some shampoo and it worked for him. I'm not sure what they'd do if you fail it. Maybe see if there's another clinical group that goes to a different facility that do are not testing? I'm not sure. Either way, good luck not only passing it, but staying clean from here on out.

If you have not smoked since August and you didn't smoke much recently you are probably going to be fine. It should not show up. I wouldn't worry.

Hope it turns out alright for you.

Just don't smoke anymore and you know you will pass next time you are asked to submit another drug test.

I'm sure it's a urine test. Hair tests are expensive, and I doubt any school would be willing to shell out the extra cash, when urine tests are so cheap.

Personally, I've never heard of anyone having to have their hair tested, expect for those applying to police forces or government jobs.

You can buy a THC urine testing kit at any drug store for under $20. 36 hours is a pretty big window to take a drug test - many drugs are out of your system naturally in that much time! Geez.

Cross your fingers, take this as a lesson, and don't make the same mistake again.

Most researchers agree that tests used to detect marijuana can detect the presence of THC for up to 13 days. I have heard people say that marijuana will be processed from your system faster if you smoke it infrequently, aren't a habitual user, etc, but I don't know that this is true. I've never smoked marijuana, and I don't know the ins and outs of how long you test positive for THC. As for drinking lots of water, don't bother. The thinking behind that is that the water will cause the THC to be rapidly flushed from your system, but THC is stored in fat cells and must first be metabolized out of them and into the urine before the body can clear itself of the drug (or that's how I understand it). Drinking lots of water will make your urine very dilute, and when you give your sample the drug testing agency will be suspicious right off the bat because your urine will be clear rather than the normal pale amber or straw color. At our school, the policy is that if you fail a drug test you are automatically removed from the program no questions asked. We had to take a drug test for around 14 different agents before we started the program, and if we act strangely or give the instructors cause to suspect that we may be using, we can be given a random drug test at any time. I don't know what your school's policy is, and I won't attempt to guess, but sobriety is taken pretty seriously in the field of nursing, or any medical profession, and, if I had to guess, I would say that your school probably won't keep you if you fail the drug test, which you very well may.
