Hello everyone,
I would like as many responses as possible. I am located in Houston, Texas but looking to working to work anywhere in the US. I am about to get my RN license and I have started looking for a job. What should I expect my salaray or my wage/hr at my first job as a RN with no experience? If people would tell me their personal pay they received at there first job would be helpful. I've researched the web and found just a scattered range of pays. Your responses will be very appreciated. Thanks!
I'm in Eastern Canada and New Grads here make $30.77/hr and 10 yrs experience that would be $38.10 (but we will be negotiating a new contract soon so that will probably go up). Add on night shift diffs and w/e diffs. If you work Pshyc or ICU add on about $50-60/two week pay period and if you have a BN add on about $34/pay. After the last "step" of our pay scale your take home pay is approx. $1800/2 weeks (Remember this number is after $ is taken out for retirement pension, life insurance, medical, eye, and dental plan, union due, and nursing association fees so the pay is is actually more but we pay lots out.
BTW, we do not have any ADN's working here. We have RN's and BN's.
The OP specified that she was calculating after taxes. Plus, most nurses get paid for 36 hours per week if they work 12 hour shifts, which is nearly 5,000 dollars less.OP, I've found that glassdoor.com and salary.com give pretty accurate estimates for salaries in specific areas. Glassdoor.com also gives salaries for specific facilities. These might be good websites for you to look at for the areas you are interested in. Pay does vary greatly based, not only on location, but the type of facility you are working for.
Op didn't ask what " most people make". She asked what each of us made at our first nursing jobs. I happen to work four twelves, not three. And I think Steven is prob a he- not a she.
Same here, just graduated into Nursing, tho with a diploma degree, starting at a main hospital in a Medical/Cardiac ICU at $28.50/hour with shift differential, increase of $1.00 after 6 months probation...
and PeteZar? Safe to assume its a upper fairfield county hospital? lol seems odd its the same rate, but I could be wrong lol

An ADN is an RN
I'm in Massachusetts. My first job was per diem and paid $35/hour. Other jobs in MA are between $25 and $32/hour depending on the hospital. Boston obviously pays the bigger bucks but you have a high cost of living and expensive commuting and parking to consider. I make ~$26/hour at my full time job right now, not including diffs.

There are 6 hospitals in my area, mine is one of the smaller ones, I just got my RN (ADN), passed NCLEX in June, I will be doing a new grad residency program, I am starting out in the ICU, but all new grads are making the same amount, be it L&D, Med Surg, or the Critical Care areas.
Good Luck to You
