First Impressions of your instructors....

I just wanted to say, although it is early days, I really am impressed with my instructors. They aren't perfect (who is) but they seem professional and mature. Also, our skills/lab instructor is just lovely. She seems to genuinely care about us and our progress. What is also cool is that she seems quite firm about things (I love that in a teacher).

I know it shouldn't mater if I like them or not, but I have decide that I do. Please let this feeling last throughout the semester!

What first impressions did you get from your instructors?

Hmmm...some instructors seem nice at first but change over time while others are consistent. I always try to focus on my studies and view thier personalities as irrelevant. My main priorities in nursing college is to do what I am told to do and study, study, study. If an instructor is nasty I avoid her totally. I only speak to her when it is very important apart from that it is the norm for me to remain professional and not to entertain petty talks from these professors. Why? Sometimes they use it against the students. So far, I love all my professor. Unlike the other nursing college I used to attend, these professors keep it real and they are not bias. I used to attend a school where the nursing director is a poor excuse for a human being. She acted like a pill popping moron! They eventually kicked her out of the school because she was their embarrassment.

well technically i have not started class, starts Tuesday!! BUT, my fundamentals professor sent the class an email, introducing herself, and told us to begin looking over a particular chapter in the book IF we wanted to get a head start..and also let us know that resources will be availabe for us via online sunday.....i thought that was nice of her!

My pathophys prof seems really cool. He def knows his stuff and enjoys what he is teaching. Is more than willing to answer any question you have. He told us up front that A's aren't easy in his class but it's not because he's a jerk it's just because he really expects you to know your material inside and out.

I have two prof for my intro to nursing class. The one seems very nice, helpfull and down to earth. She's no non-sense but not a crab either. The other lady...well let's just say her rep proceeds her and I now know why. She's definetly the "weed some of these people out" professor. I have no doubt that's why they have her teaching the intro class. I'm not looking fwd to having her lecture and am keeping everything crossed that she does not end up my clinical instructor. *sigh*

*edit* Just as an example...she told us in orientation that she will make us pull up our pants cuff to show her that our socks come above our ankle bone and if they do not we are sent home from clinical. Not. Kidding.

So, for the most part my instructors seem pretty good this semester. My clinical instructor will change and I go through rotations though. My biggest issue with my school is what appears to be lack of organization. At times it seems that everyone is operating from a different set of instructions. This really isn't the instructors fault - it the administration that over see the instructors, but then again, no much we can do about that!

oh good grief peytonsmom!! good luck to you!! lol

Peytonsmom, your clinical instructor just likes to feel in control at all times. If I have an instructor like that I would try to avoid her as much as possible. She is not good for your self-confidence. I know what I am talking about, I had one who used to boast about the students she failed and everytime I looked at her I really felt nauseated. She was the worst person I have ever met so far. I will visit that side of town in the next three months and I really want her to know that my dream was not a distant memory but hers will soon be shattered as soon as they start doing random testing!

Love them. They seem to love teaching and genuinely excited to have us. It has only been 4 days and while I know they will be strict and hold us to high standards, they have made it clear already that they care about all of us and want to see us succeed. They have also made us all feel very comfortable about approaching them for advice and such.

Nice and definitely helpful, but super tough. My skills lab professor also told us about the socks!! On the first day of lab!! She did it in a very nice way though and explained to us the reasoning behind it (which is solid, of course.) Luckily, I haven't had an unfair or nasty professor...yet. Sometimes they are intimidating but I find that always being positive with them (smiling, listening attentively in class) helps a lot.

We've got 5 teachers that teach different sections of the program. So far we've had 3 of them in class. They're all very different in their teaching styles, but I like what I've seen so far. We have our first skills check off in lab tomorrow, so I'll get to see what they're like in lab.

So far I am loving the ones I have gotten to work with this week.
