First cadaver lab today!

Published

We have our first cadaver lab today. I can't wait!

Specializes in ICU.

:nurse: :yeah:

I'm so happy for you! We get cats for dissection, and our instructor is very pleased with them. She says they are much better than fetal pigs b/c the pigs are too pre-mature to see the organ systems very well. Supposedly they are very close to human organ systems. So far this seems to be true, although I'm having a terrible time going back and forth from cat to human trying to name muscles...

Congrats again on your cadaver...that seems just perfect!!!

Specializes in Level III cardiac/telemetry.

I got to visit the cadaver lab in October at the med school here. I was taking my CNA class and our instructor snuck us in with her nursing students - it was so cool! In January I was in Tampa, FL while the "BODIES...the exhibition" was there at the science museum. It was such an awesome experience and if you ever see that it will be near you - GO! It uses cadavers from China that are posed in amazing positions demonstrating each of the body systems. I really can't describe it, but I convinced my dad that it would be an educational experience for me so he went with me and loved it too. I also bought a couple of anatomy books while I was there and a pretty cool disease book.

Have fun with the cadavers!

Isn't it amazing that people donate their bodies for study like that? I think it's incredible that people are willing to do that.

My father has made arrangements to donate his body to the local medical school. He will someday be explored by medical students, as a cadaver. He's a hypochondriac. It's his dream...so much attention and discussion of his every bodily crevise :uhoh3: .

Hey I went to that same exhibit last weekend--it was so cool, but the actual cadaver workshop was obviously way more interesting lol.

Now, after watching some of that, I dont think the cat will be so bad. I was surprised that I was able to watch as much as I did. Maybe I can develp a stomach of steel. That was NOT very pretty at all.
