I completed the final oral defense for my MSN through WGU this morning. I also have my BSN from WGU.
Completed RN-to-BSN in one, six month term, and the MSN in 11 months and five days (not that I'm counting!)
Two degrees for under $10K out of pocket, including books. (I received a total of $2K in scholarships)
So----- I'm going to put myself out there and if you would like info about either program from a recent grad -hit me up!
Most master's programs require a thesis or other large project (capstone) that represents the culmination of your schooling. The capstone for WGU is a large research project. Once you've written your thesis or completed you capstone, you have to "defend" it - basically sit in front a panel of professors while they ask you questions about your project or research, in order to ascertain that you're sufficiently knowledgeable about it. That's the "oral defense"

I'm new here and I hope this isn't breaking some kind of rule but is there a way you can message me or I you? I'd like to get more info on your experience.
Thank you for being so receptive to questions! I am nearly done with my associate RN program and am looking at schools to continue education through.
1) It is my understanding that the classes for WGUs RN-BSN are done one at a time, at your own pace. On average, how long did it take to complete a class?
2) How are the e-books delivered? Is it via Kindle format? Did they send an ebook disc to you?
3) How did you find WGU regarding credit transfers? I was on the phone with a rep from WGU today and they are refusing to view my transcripts until I am finished with my ASN and working as an RN.
4) How did proctored exams work? I've heard there's a webcam involved...
I know this Thread is old but hoping to get some bites... I will be graduating from ADN in December. I want to go back to school and earn my BSN then MSN as soon as possible. Would you recommend this school to a new grad? Should I contact them after I pass my boards or can I get the ball rolling after I graduate? I have been searching these threads and really feel I want to attend WGU!
I have just accepted a job as a LPN, but it is Per Diem. Does Per Diem count? My new job stated they are open to hiring me as a RN as soon as I pass my boards (using my Per Diem status as a LPN to see if I am a good fit for their facility). It is an assisted living facility (don't know if it has to be in a hospital setting).
