I'm scheduled to start the MSN Ed on 1/1/13 as well. I just completed my BSN through WGU (submitted my last assignment yesterday) and I love this school!

Reading this entire post gets me super excited to start. I would love to keep in touch and be able to ask questions as I go throughout my program. How long does it take from the application process to when you get to start the actual program. I want to start the program by April. Would you suggest I start applying now? Also, I work at a hospital that is affiliated with WGU but I would like to do my hours at another hospital that is apparently also affiliated with the school. Am I able to choose?

Yes, Barkow, you have to pay for another term and can't officially "graduate" until the end of that term. You may want to consider pulling out all stops and getting that one last class done this term (take PTO, lock yourself away in a hotel room away from kids and responsibilities, etc.). It'll be worth it! Congrats on this great accomplishment :)
Is it different for the RN-BSN program regarding finishing and receiving the degree then? Just recalled my student mentor told me that if I held my practicum into the next term, I would only pay for that class and would receive my BSN upon completion of that class, not at the end of the term. I'm just curious not that it matters as I switched programs from the BSN to MSN track.

Right, RNMommy - if you have to go into another semester and you just have one class and you finish with several months left, they will prorate the rest of the months you have left. AND, you receive your degree as soon as you're done with all your coursework, not at the end of the semester. I find it hard to believe the Master's program is different.

I want to finish my MSN in 12 months. Let's say I'm almost done by then but need an extra month to finish...
1. Do you have to pay the entire semester tuition if you only have one class left?
2. Can you graduate immediately upon finishing your work, or do you have to wait until the term ends?

THe way it works in the BSN program (and I would be very surprised to learn it's any different in the MSN program) is that you still pay the tuition, but you would be prorated back any unused months of tuition. You graduate as soon as you are done, not at the end of the semester.

What does the oral defense entail, and is it required for the BSN also? Thank you in advance.
