Hello all, I am intersted in working in Hattiesburg. I am in my last semester of nursing school in hawai graduating with a BSN by the end of this year, and plan on moving to mississippi. I just wanted to know how hard it is for a new grad to get a job in forrrest general, wesley, or any hospitals in the area.
Also, should i begin contacting nurse recruiters at these hospitals for a potential career?
Thanks for all your help

With all the nursing schools in the area, I would contact a nurse recruiter at Forrest General as soon as possible.

I just graduated last month and I am an LPN ,jobs are hard to come by for us especially at the hospital, but I will be working at Forrest General on the postpartum floor. I guess I got lucky. RN positions seem to be a bit more available. I don't think you will have trouble finding a job. I wish you well and a big welcome to Mississippi. If you have any other questions private message me and I will do my best to answer them. By the way why would you move from Hawaii to Mississippi ????????? if you don't mind me asking.

There are plenty of RN jobs at Forrest General, even if you don't see them posted online. Its big so there are many positions beyond floor nurses you can look into. Most hospitals in the area are always needing nurses, and you won't have a problem finding a job, even as a new grad. Just in case you're curious: starting pay is 20.50 for new grad. I THINK it may be $0.50-1.00 more for BSN. Look on the website and email the recruiter.

That is some good pay for Hattiesburg. I didn't know they paid their nurses that much. That is higher than salaries in Jackson for RN's.

my question is one I have for myself: "With pay $2.00 higher away from Jackson, why am I still here?"
I'm not sure. I will have to ask one of my friends, she should probably know. I'm sure the pay is about the same in Madison, Ridgeland, Brandon, and Jackson. It will depend on what type of facility you work in: clinic or hospital.
Well, $2.00 is not that big of a difference enough to move to Hattiesburg. I, myself, like Jackson a WHOLE lot better than Hattiesburg. Hattiesburg is a small college town, there is more to do in Jackson.

JMO, But often bigger cities (like Jackson) also have more jobs available.
I work in New Orleans so I honestly can't claim to be up to breast on things in the Hattiesburg job market...But I've heard of new grads that say it's a little harder to get a nursing job in the HUB because there are so many nursing schools in the area.
