Hey guys I'm in the process of getting my lpn license in oklahoma. I graduated nursing school in Dec. Of 2010 in texas, never took boards. I got in trouble shortly after graduating, got on a bad path in life. I got a theft shoplifting misdimeanor charge 2011, violated probation 2012 with a DWI, then evading arrest 2013, all misdimeanors. I am most likely able to get my license in oklahoma, but my question is about finding employment. I know nursing is in demand, but wondering if anybody in a similar situation has had a tough time actually finding a job here. All advice welcome. Thank you.

Hello, and welcome to Allnurses.com!
We have moved your thread to our Nursing Licensure With a Criminal History forum. Good luck to you, and we hope you find a job as an LPN.

So looking at your other posts. You graduated 5 years ago and never took the NCLEX. Are you presently licensed? If not I wouldn't assume that getting permission to test and a liscence with misdemeanors will be a cake walk. After that you just have to find and keep a job, any job. Establishing positive employment history will open doors.

You have four criminal arrests in the past four years? I'm not sure how you think you will not have a problem with licensure.
I've spoken to the Ok BON about getting my license.... they said I should be able to get it as long as I do not have a felony...
Bon told me I have to take a refresher course then I can begin the process of getting approval for licensure. They said I should be able to, of course I will have to explain my background. I have an opportunity to take this refresher course soon. But I'm debating if I should just start over, go for rn and not take this refresher. Really dreading explaining this 5 year gap of not getting my license and/or getting simply rejected. I already have a criminal record that's going to make things harder for me. Will me graduating in 2010 show up on a background also?

You will have to include your school and graduation dates on a resume and most job applications, so it won't even take a background check for them to know that it's been a while.
I would strongly suggest trying to get your LPN license and finding a job before you go back for RN. If you are going to have problems with licensure and employment, better to find out before you invest in another degree. And if you do manage to get licensed and hold an LPN job, that will be a big help in trying to get an RN position later.
Thank you.
What Im wondering is if I do, skip and go straight to getting my RN, will employers still see that I did go to school for lpn back in 2011? Thanks so much for you guys input
