Hi everyone,
I am currently pre-nursing and this past semester was only able to complete two of the classes that I took. I'm really not sure where else to post this, and no one I know has had this problem so they can't really give me advice or straight answers.
My school requires 67% completion, I met 60%, thus leading to my financial aid being suspended. This was not a case of me slacking off or not caring. I managed to pull an A and a B+ in the classes I was able to complete, but the problem is that my family and I are currently in the midst of a foreclosure and dealing with that and trying to move took up a lot of my time. We are currently living with my aunt and uncle in their house.
I plan to appeal the suspension because I am an otherwise good student with a 3.8 GPA and honestly, I can't continue without some sort of aid.
So far what I know about appealing is that it requires documentation as proof of mitigating circumstances and I have paperwork that we received that stated the bank would be beginning the process of foreclosure after my parents bankruptcy was complete. I will also need to write a letter and sit with a guidance counselor. I have never had any issues like this before, but after an already terrible year, 2014 doesn't seem to be off to a great start. I can't get into school until Thursday, January 2 when they open again and I am so upset and nervous in the meantime.
Have you ever had your financial aid suspended or know someone who has? Did you appeal? What was your experience?
Any information at all is greatly appreciated.
Hi there,
I'm a pre-nursing student, too, and I was once in a similar situation to yours. My FA was revoked when I fell below the 67% completion rate due to postpartum depression. It sounds like you've gotten together all the documents you could've, and what I think is that your school could reinstate it on a "probation" term like mine did. The next semester I had to do well, and redo the failed classes, and if I did that, I was back in good standing. Hopefully, this will be the case with you.

Thanks :) I hope so! I submitted all of my paperwork and now I have to wait 7-10 days to find out if they'll approve it. Unfortunately I had to drop all my classes until after I find out.
Thanks again to all of you for all of your help!!
I received the email stating my appeal was approved on Tuesday and I just wanted to post here and say thanks to everyone who posted on this thread! I honestly would have been a lot more upset and stressed had I not posted on here and received the replies I did.
Thanks everyone and good luck to everyone else going through the same thing!
You can always appeal the decision. Also if you have been accepted into a program they usually reverse this decision since all they really want this for you to finish your degree so you can become employed and purse what you went to school for. Try to talk to the manager of your financial aid office if you haven't already. Best of luck!
It's a case by case basis. I dropped too many classes 10 years ago (lol) and lost my financial aid and appealed, but was still denied... however... I dropped because I was stupid, not for a good reason. If it does get denied, you'll have to find a way to take a couple classes to get yourself back up to 60% total completion rate if I remember correctly. Could you get tuition reimbursement somewhere or apply for scholarships or anything? Try fastweb.com. They have TONS of scholarships if you put in the time to write essays, etc. Good luck!

This website really is awesome! I almost didn't post this question on here because it wasn't at all nursing related but I'm so glad I did. All of the replies I received have been helpful and genuinely nice! I appreciate everyone's input :) thanks again!
