Financial Aid App. Dropped--UGH!!!!

:angryfire hi everyone... i just checked the status of my financial aid so that i can start my prerequisites spring b (march 9th) at my comm. college. the screen said "file dropped due to acedemic grades" or something like that. first off, let me explain my situation. i attended this school back in 1999 and my son was at the daycare on campus. i was in my first semester, right around finals (as my luck would have it) and he came down with pink eye. i was not able to find anyone to watch him and had to drop out. i have since went on (with financial aid of course) to school at the city college here and got my ma degree. ok so when i called the school, the woman said i could appeal or i could just pay out of pocket. (i can not afford that as my dh is the only one working and we have 3 children, bills, etc). so i am hoping that you all will not mind reading what i wrote and telling me if it sounds good before i turn it in. let me know if i should add something, take anything out, etc. ;) the part in red i am not sure if i should include, may just be extra knowledge, more of a waste than anything... please help :)to whom it may concern:

this letter is to request an appeal for my financial aid. a decision was made for me not to receive financial aid due to my grades at ____ in 1999. when i was attending ____ in 1999, my son was at the _______. he came down with pink eye amd was not allowed to return until it cleared up. as luck would have it, this was during finals week. i tried unsuccessfully to find a sitter for him, so i had to drop out. i have since went on to receive an associates of science allied health medical assisting degree. i would like the chance to attend ____ and further my medical knowledge to become an rn. but because my husband is the sole provider for our household, i am not finacially able to pay the fees due for spring b without receiving aid. if you were to review my transcripts from city college you would see that i had a high gpa all throughout my attendance. my gpa from 1999 should not be a factor as to whether or not i receive my financial aid because a situation arose that was beyond my control. thank you for your understanding and consideration.

i know it has been a while, but do you have documentation on the fact that your son had pink eye, and couldn't return? ....and i know it's too late now, but did you try to talk to your instructor about getting an incomplete?

anyway, as for your letter, here are my opinions: start the red sententence with i am..... also, i wouldn't put "my gpa from 1999 should not be a factor....." that would tick me off....

so, you may want to state it like this: i am asking that my gpa from 1999 not be a factor because......."

hope this helps, and good luck.

I am the financial aid nightmare queen....... My financial aid has been dropped now about 4 times. Now when I go into the FA office they say "OH LAWD here she:devil: comes again... WHICH ONE OF YOU DROPPED HER FA THIS SEMESTER." A while back I was bad and had to go on the naughty mat long enough to complete 12 hours on my own... My punishment. Then I somehow accumulated over 100 hours attempted, mind you 30 of those hours were required by the college as part of the remedial courses. Let me add one more thing I paid for 75% of my classes myself until the last couple of semesters. :smackingf Anyway I was dropped again. I just got my appeal approval back but I have strict boundaries on the classes I can take. However, it is paid for:w00t: Thank Goodness...Your appeal sounds good .. Mine was more angry sounding ,then they told me that their decision depends on what is in the letter.. :banghead: . I wish you luck, it is so hard to pay for college. God love ya . Take care.

Thanks Fun, for the advice, I changed the wording on both those sentences to what you said and it does sound better, a lot less "hostile" I guess... I am going to call the daycare today and see if by some wild chance they have any kind of records of my sons pink eye, if not, maybe his old pediatrician that treated the pink eye. Not sure how long they keep that stuff if you are no longer a pt. As for calling the teachers, yeah I did that, but what could they say? All they said was well I am sorry to hear that. I did find out that I (don't ask how) passed one of the classes from back then with a B and that was without the final...lol. Txspade thanks for your story and the fact that you wished me luck, why does it have to be so stinkin hard to get money? lol...
