Are all Dr.'s like this?
i was going to make my own post for this but then i saw the op's question and i figured i would sort of insert a question mid-way through this post here, hope nobody minds. as far as for the doc's being arrogant, i wonder if they get mad at the nurses when they give information to the pts.? i mean i see a lot on here where people have said something along the lines of "find out the info. and tell your pt about it" (i hope you guys know what i am getting at). when you tell the pt what you know or have learned, then they say hey nurse so and so said _______ (whatever it was you told them), have you ever had a doc act as if you should not have done that? in other words do they ever get mad for you giving your 2 cents on the situation? i know this may be a confusing question, because i agree, nurses are the ones that deal with the people and doc's are the medicine, however do they ever act like you went over their head or whatever? thats one of the things i am concerned about going nto nursing. i am assuming though that if it is useful, they can't (and don't) say too much, right?

Medical Assistants at Doctors Office
hey guys...sorry to butt in here :chuckle just want to tell you what i know about medical assistants, being one myself. no i am not a nurse (but hope to be one one day ) and i know that. i never claimed to be one although i am sure there are others who have... :uhoh21: i did go to school (college), for 18 months, and i was told that we were about equivelant to lpn's. i now know that is a bunch of bs they gave us to get us pepped up ( :angryfire ) i think, though, that we are above a cna but below an lpn. we learned in school (using a hotdog :chuckle) how to give injections subq, im, and id. (hope i abreviated those right, its been a while... ) we also took a class in phlebotomy, got cpr certified, took a class in med. term, med. law and ethics, emergency procedures, pharmacology, ya know, stuff like that. (i have never gave meds nor would i want to at my current educational level.) baasically though, the only reason i wanted to reply to you guys was to say that one of the main reasons that i want to become an rn is because i love the medical field and helping patients, feeling good about what i do... (even though all i have really had a chance to do so far while working as an ma is do the vs and draw blood) and i want to further (the little bit of) knowlege that i recieved while in school for my ma degree. and yeah i totally agree with the fact that it is wrong for a ma to be letting her (unknowing) patients and family members think she is a nurse. i also agree that the reason ma's are at doc's offices are the cheapness of them (i was making $7.00 an hour!) oh well, theres my

1 marker for down syndrome?
Hi all. I was just wondering if any of you could better explain this to me. I posted earlier about my BIL having his first child in June of 2005. We are all exstatic. We found out a few days ago (according to his g-friends sonogram) that it is going to be a girl. BUT the NEW thing that he told hubby and I yesterday is the doc's told his girlfriend that the baby has a marker for downe syndrome. They said it usually takes more than one marker for the baby to be born with down syndrome but now of course we are all nervous. If any of you can tell me exactly what you know about down syndrome I would be eternally greatful. (ex: just what are these "markers" they are talking about, what "causes" down syndrome, etc). Thanks!!!

Considering a tubal...
Thanks for seeing things from the general public/medical assistant (who actually had not even had too much schooling anyways when my daughter was born) and not just from the nurse perspective...yes all I was doing was trying to share my story... Oh well.

Considering a tubal...
Thank you for your kind words marysunshine...they mean a lot!! :blushkiss :loveya:

Considering a tubal...
It came out harsh to me, and thanks to the two posters who thought so too. But it did shed some knowledge and I hope it helps the original poster, also. From now on I will shut up when I don;t know something, I am sorry for even replying since evidentally all I said was the wrong things!!
