Hey Everyone,

It's been a while since I have posted. I have been soooo busy. Anyway, I finally sent my application/review to EC, now the waiting begins. I am told that the process could take up to two months. My god, what do they do with the reviews anyway? Well, wish me luck. I am still studying A&P and I think I will start studying micro too.

I think that EMT-Bs can still enroll after Sept., but they'll need 1000 (?) hours of supervised experience in the field.

I am glad I am not the only one studying A&P. I am not enrolling either until I have too. I also need miicro and I think ethics.

Hi Spazzy Nurse,

Effective September 3, 2003, individuals relying on EMT certification as a means to earn admission to the Excelsior College School of Nursing must hold Paramedic level certification. Basic and Intermediate EMT certification will no longer meet the School of Nursing admission requirement

I took this directly from the EC site. It sounds like they are definitely phasing out the EMT. I would love to know exactly what is going on. I mean if they will admit a newly licensed Medical Assistant or Respiratory Therapist, why wouldn't they directly admit an EMT with 1,000 hours of experience. If I am not mistaken, EMT's are exposed to much more than a Medical Assistant working in an office. Go figure....who knows what they are thinking.

I am still in my first course-NC1. I think I am taking it too slow and really need to buckle down. I have my A&P materials waiting for me to get started on as soon as I complete NC1. I took this course first on the advice of Rue; but wish I had talked directly with EC first and would have started on my pre-reqs first to get them out of the way. So I have decided that once I finally..LOL..make it through NC1, I will do all of my pre-req's before going on to NC2. Any suggestions out there? Like others, I also have the responsibility of full-time work, house, kids, hubby, etc?

Welcome to the EC clan! :)

You are going to REALLY need your family's help throughout this program, especially towards the end. You will need your husband to give you an extra hand with things, giving you extra study time. Find what time works best for you, and try to study at that time. If it's at night once the kids are in bed--- great, do it then. If it's cramming all weekend long, great--- get the hubby to take the kids camping for a weekend. You wouldn't BELIEVE how much you get done when you are alone!!! You can put 100% of your brain into it, whereas when there is someone around, even if they're not bothering you, part of your mind isn't on your studying.

You can do this--- there are tons of FT working wives/moms to prove it! Just jump in and don't stop if you don't absolutely have to...... it's way too hard to start up again once you stop. Trust me on this. :)

Welcome Shae,

I know exactly what you mean, I lose motivation too. I find that if I force myself to get back into the studying schedule, I usually get right back into the swing of things. Now that the weather is so nice it's twice as hard. I also run my daughter to softball practice/games, I take that opportunity to study. I do alot of studying in my car. I'm finding the A&P somewhat difficult because of all the info. I'm trying to focus on what is on EC's content guide. Maybe we should start an A&P thread:p

The rule about the EMT changed as of Jan 01, 2003. I know because I was just about finished with an EMT class when the great news came my way.

Good advice though, keep an watchful eye on this school for changes. It just seems to me some group must have come down hard on EC.

Good luck,

C
