so, I finally signed up for the nurse refresher course to get my license back to active. I paid $750 and the classes start in May. Now I am seeing all these posts saying they cant find a job...I hope I am not putting all this time and money out and wont be able to find a job come September. I am so worried! I live in Pa, but have a Md license. I guess at least I have 2 states I will be able to be looking in. I never thought there would be a time that it would be hard to find a job in nursing! and to top it off..i am only an LPN...not an Rn. I planned on going for a bridge course to get my RN..but i guess we will see how it goes. i definately dont want to put out all that money and not be able to find a job! I wonder what the posiblity there is to get a job where I do clinicals. did anyone get a job where they did clinicals?? thanks for listening!

I think it depends where you live in PA and what specialty you want to work. As far as LPN's I know that several hospitals I have worked in, in southeastern PA/Philadelphia area are or have phased out LPN's. I would suggest you check the job listings in your area. There are many scholarships and online programs to bridge to an RN, it may end up being very beneficial for you.

I spoke with a recruiter a few days ago about the situation on nursing jobs. He told me that many nurses are relocating to the south because the job market for nurses in the north is bad. He said you could pretty much cut the country in half near TN and anything north is not good for job hunters.. include florida in that also.
well, we wont be relocating...my husband makes pretty good money and my daughter is in private school and i dont want to move her. i guess i will just have to wait and see. i know i wont be working in a hospital..i dont mind ltc, i just want a job. i will be doing the bridge course, but they all require 6 month working experience..so i have to have a job before i can do the classes!

IMO it's not a waste of money..you may not be able to get a job right away but if you go in knowing that and just complete the courses, you will be ready. Recessions are temporary! I'm in the same boat, been out for many years and will be looking for a job again.
another thing, stay flexible. Hours, where you work, pt , etc. You'll find something.
education is never a waste!
well...i actually found a job before i finished the course...i am a "shift manager" at an assisted living facility. i am doing exactly what i will be doing when i finally get my license back in september. just will add a few more responsibilities and $6 more an hour..i am so happy. i am working 3rd shift which will be nice and slow to get me back in the swing of things!!!
SO, i am done...finished sept 1st. have my Md license active. i am sending pa paperwork today to get my pa license. i have decided to get my RN. i LOVE the ED, and that is my goal. so i am thinking of doing online courses to get my prereq's and then when my 2 year old starts school, i will do the 1 year of rn school. thanks for all your replys!
