I'll take it. One by the skin of my teeth, one sailing right through. This was a very rewarding semester in several ways. I'm happy with my grades and I'm ready to take on next year. I'm looking for a job in a psych ward this summer to go with my one shift a week as an EMT, that sounds like fun to me.

So... how'd it go?

Congrats!!!

I made it through 3rd semester great, and am now taking one online summer course to ease up the fall load. It's definately hard to focus with my kids home, but I'll make it :)

We had orientation yesterday and our instructor told us that we should be thrilled if we get Bs.

I just finished a summer course with an A. Honestly it was the most useless class ever but required. Ill be back in August for my final semester. Until then- work and SLEEP!

I'll get end of term grades today. I was an A student until I got in this particular instructor's class and she had the nerve to tell me last term that I shouldn't fret by being 2 points away from an A because I more than likely won't get an A the following term either. Well, I so want to prove her wrong. Mid-term grades I was sitting at a 90%.

Our grading scale is A = 93-100%; B = 85-92%; C = 80-84%. So crossing my fingers and toes that an A is waiting. :chair:

Mine uses the 93-100 is an A scale too.. which sucks. Currently carrying a 95% overall. Grades won't be in till probably the beginning of November since the end of first level is Oct. 18

What is it with these nursing instructors telling students right off the bat not to expect A's? I mean, how discouraging is that? They are telling students, in essence, not to even try for an A because you won't get it.

I personally, think it's a major ego trip. If they don't have any students getting A's, then something is wrong with the quality of instruction.

Use this as motivation to prove the instructor wrong...take care and good luck

I think it is dumb, too. We got the same lecture: Don't expect A's, because nursing school is really hard. If you were a straight A student before you came here, don't expect to maintain that, because nursing school is really hard.

Oh, yeah? Well, sweetheart, maybe I got all A's in my other classes because I work really hard and have effective studying strategies. Maybe your classes aren't as difficult as you think. I do know that I have had no problem maintaining my grade point average in your program, thank you very much. And I have no plans to deviate from this pattern, but thanks anyway for your futile attempts at discouragement and your lack of belief in your students' abilities.

Next time why don't you just save your breath, or at least ammend your speech to something more accurate. That nursing school is a lot of reading AND critical thinking, that regurgitating information is not going to lead to good scores, and that your scores depend upon you comprehending the material and being able to apply it to multiple situations. That many tests will have questions that have ALL correct answers, and your goal is to choose the MOST correct one. Then sincerely and honestly wish us all good luck.
