hi everyone. in a newbie here. so please welcome me. thanks.
anyways, i am a Filipina who just graduated this April from a Nursing school in the Philippines and came to Houston just this June after taking the local Nursing Licensure Exam. and i am wondering if there are kind hearted nurses (Filipinos, or not) in Houston who are nice enough to help me and give me information about the process of getting a license in Texas, or recommend someone who could help. it's still early there's still a lot of time, i know, but while waiting for the results of the June board exam, i want to find as much information as i can, so that it would be easier when time comes that i will apply for the state board.
well, thanks for reading this. and i hope that you would help me. i'll be waiting for your reply. and it would be greatly appreciated. thanksomuch!!
You must understand that BON change requiremnts from time to time. It's not static.Once must read the website and make calls to BON to keep updated on each specific BON.
Yes, I do understand this, there have been many changes over the years. I felt my BON communicates well via the web and prior to this via newsletter. Professional organizations have also communicated the changes and I have met the requirements without ever an issue.
I also advise many new nurses and students regarding licesure and have never needed to call. ( I did call the one time when they did not send a renewal- it was an error where no nurse in the state got a renewal).
Perhaps the foreign nurses who only goal is to practice in the USA should hold their educators responsible for this process ?

Actually your states BON is very poorly written, Try to look up licenses and it difficult to find

I am gonna assume you only deal with one state.
I have dealt with numerous BON and I don't llike to make mistakes so I read the BON and call and confirm BON's from time to time

Are you saying you have multiple licenses in the same state? I don't understand how one nurse can have more than one license.
100% agree with youEvery one needs to call the BON directly and find the answer directly.
Great advice.. flood the BON in Texas with loads of questions that are already answered on the website.
None of the nurses with applications stuck in process need to be able to call in and find out what is going on wrong with the application.
None of the foreign nurses whose payments have been lost by BON have any need to get in and talk to a person at TX BON.
No, we need to flood those phone lines with lots of calls to ask simple questions that the FAQs already take care of.

Yes, but you are dealing with US nurses only, I know that from your comments that you would never help foreign nurses.
Foreign nurses have to call all the time because the BONs in the USA do a very poor job of communicating problems with applications for those applicants. (there are a few exceptions)

Absolutely not. This causes a great level of mistakes because the educators give advice based on old information. Educators do not have time to keep up with BON regulations and such.
Specialized application centers, however, do have the ability to keep up with the BON regulations on a daily basis and direct nurses with the right information every time without wasted money on phone calls or putting the wrong information on the application because of the difference between applying as a foreign nurse versus a US nurse.
Sometimes its not a good idea to engage individual posters. In previous posts, itzallgood has indicated that they are not a nurse, but rather a person that helps nurses come overseas.
Really? In other threads he/she/it has sounded very Xenophobic.
I don't know what to make of the statements.. they don't seem helpful to any nurse or prospective nurse.
In fact, they seem to be antagonistic in a very subversive way.
Creative Trolling?

Then the students should demand that their school keep current, it the school is lax on these issues, I am assuming they don't keep up clinically. shame on them that is their job.

This is what really bothers me, as a licensed nurse I was assured my confidential information is only between the board and myself. In my opinion and I will call them today, they should not be discussing anything with a third party.
US history has shown us ( mostly with the DMV) when information is dispensed to the wrong person it can result in harm.
When I use an accountant to do my taxes they need to be certified and issued a number with the IRS. There are no safe guards with the BON dispensing personal information. What would happen in a messy divorce and a crazed spouse called and got information only to harm the nurse. What if the center gives bad information - the foreign nurse has no recourse.
Once again, the US is full of crazy forms and dealing with the government at all levels are hard. If a nurse can't fill out a simple application which in my opinion on a scale of 1-10 is a 2. How are they going to work in the US when you have to complete much harder forms such as an application for Medicaid for their patient ? Which on a scale of 1-10 is an 11.

Guys can we please keep things civil between ourselves.
Most people do not have to contact the BON after submitting application. If there is a delay then yes it is worth checking in with the BON but on average for a foreign nurse you are looking at a process of 4-6 moths before receiving eligibility to sit NCLEX (NY is an exception as it can take longer)
Also remember requirements are different when trained in the US to trained outside the US. Plus take into account that CA BRN is now closed I believe 3 Fridays a month and they are known to not always answer the phone in a timely manner
