i am new to this forum. i am a r.n. in philippines and will migrate in canada (vancouver). i haven't actually practiced my profession as a nurse in hospital setting instead as a company nurse.

actually i don't know have an idea  as to what to do to become a r.n. in canada.

should i need to take up another how many years of nursing in canada?

what should i do? kindly help me please!! thanks a lot.

thank's janfrn for the info and advice.

I just wannna ask what do you mean when you said that once the CRNBC has proof of success on the CRNE, the applicant is eligible upon submitting all the pertinent documentation fees to receive temporary registration?

This is how I understood it and pls correct me if I am wrong: Once passing the CRNE, that person will receive a temporary registration?

Do they give a paper/certificate stating that you are on temporary registration? where's the eligibility for interim permit? Is it also stated there?

Pls bear with me, with my questions, I just want to know specific details so that when my time comes that I will be in that situation it is much easier to plan and handle things. Thank you.

Have you read anything on the CRNBC website? http://www.crnbc.ca/downloads/565.pdf is very easy to follow.

You write the CRNE. When you pass, you apply for registration with CRNBC. As an IEN, you are only eligible for temporary registration until you complete the 250 hours of supervised work experience. Following me so far? You submit the documentation (it's listed on the fact sheet, page 1, left side of the page about 2/3 of the way down) and pay for registration ($350 plus 5% tax). Yes, they give you a piece of paper that says you have temporary registration. Clear? Then when you've successfully completed your supervised work experience and submit your proof, they immediately convert your registration to full registration. Got that? You're looking at perhaps a year before you'll get to this point, although with the state of the economy right now, there might not be a job for you by then. It's hard to say.

Thank you for that detailed info.

I am easily confused since I hadn't tried applying yet and neither know anyone who was able to get a temp reg., so thank's for all of those info.

ELIGIBILITY

Nurses from other countries may be eligible for temporary

registration if they:

have applied to write the registration examination and

have a B.C. employer agreeing to provide supervision;

--> This information is very clear, what I think happened to my friends )in my previous posts)was that, he couldn't find an employer who wants to hire someone like him, who is on a (1)tourist visa and (2)recently passed the CRNE.

That's why he's really lost right now on were to begin because facilities asks him if he has a working visa together with the interim. How can he get an interim since he doesn't have an employer yet. So I think, he has not really met an employer who does have interest in nurses like his status. They don't want the hassle of processing the visas, having him supervised.

He is loosing hope right now and I don't know what to advice him, he's been looking for an employer since he got the result last nov, so it's been 3 months now.

Pls do give me advice that could help him. Thank's to all.

There really isn't anything you can do to help him. He put the cart before the horse and didn't do his homework. An employer is NOT going to hire anyone on a tourist visa because it's against the law. End of story. And why would an employer want to take on all the problems that will accompany hiring someone like this who clearly didn't understand that a tourist visa means you can't work? To say nothing of the expense. Canada's hospitals are funded entirely by the taxpayer and although people would like to have more nurses in them, they aren't really happy when money is spent on things that they don't perceive as good value, such as fees for paperwork for someone who might never actually materialize. For the amount of money some provinces have spent on foreign recruiting, they could have upgraded all the LPNs in their province who wanted it to RNs and have them at the bedside in about the same time-frame. He has to return to the Philippines and apply for a work permit. He can apply for work while he's waiting for the visa, but it might be some time before he has either.

Your friend really needs to return home and start the process. Before they can work in the healthcare setting they need a medical and this is all done before a TWP is authorised. Average processing times for TWP is 5 months may take longer depending on volume of applicants

thank's silver.

I think what concerns him is looking for an employer. He still has 2 months here. It doesn't concern him if he comes back here in the Philippines aslong that he can find an employer there. Because he is thinking that it is more difficult to find an employer from here, he will be spending a lot for longdistance, faxes, etc.

So, what I mean to say is that, while he is still in BC he's taking it as an opportunity to look for employers, w/c is the most important thing because that would ensure him a certification from CRNBC for interim permit.

Though he's going back in the Philippines, it's fine because he has already an employer and would just be spending his time here preparing the papers and not looking for any employer anymore.

Pls. do help. Thank's.

If he is planning on returning home to go through the process then I see no problems in him approaching employers and many should be used to the interim permit and requirements of the province
