Feuer Nursing Review

Published

Just wondering if anyone has used this review before. I had read good things about it on the internet. I have already done Kaplan and Hurst and neither one worked for me. I have failed the boards 4 times and I am tired of taking the NCLEX . I want to find something that will help me. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do not recall reading anything negative about Feuer here. Just keep at it. I don't know that I would continue spending money on reviews. The latest edition of Saunders and some hard work should do it. Good luck.

I did the Feuer review and I'm preparing to take my boards in a few weeks. I really don't think it's the review course but what you take away from the course. I have not done the other reviews you mentioned but I know people who have and they have been successful with them. You mention you've taken the NCLEX-RN 4x! I don't think it's any particular review that would make you pass. I've also been told not to use too many books and jump from review to review course..... the question styles are different.

Although, I haven't taken my exam yet I would suggest you stop throwing money away on review courses and get a good comprehensive review book and go through it. Read the information here especially the one about infection control and the post about "what you should know for the NCLEX." If you attend another review you're only going to take home information that you should have already been studying.

Best

The comments made about not jumping from review to review, I have to agree with. I have failed boards twice. I'm scheduled again June 23. I have the Kaplan, Hurst, and about 5 other books on nclex questions and review material. I forgot to mention the NCLEX 3500 CD. I had been told more than once during school that I search too deep for information. It's so hard to get a good understanding of things when your reading so many books. I have learned by forcing on one "good book" and by saying "good book", I simple mean something you can understand and connect with. When I finally closed ALL of the books, stepped back and looked at what I had been doing and KNEW it was NOT working......I realized there where so many whole in my knowledge base. So, I have been reading over my notes from school. Taking it system by system and trying to get a better understanding of things as a whole. Now, since I started doing my NCLEX questions again, I have a better understanding of things. (even the rationale when I answer incorrectly. Its been 8 months since I graduated and there were so many "little" things I had forgotten.

Anywho,,,,, I feel your pain and wish you the best at ur next test. I understand how it feels to not know where to turn. I, myself, have searched high and low for that "magical" book with everything I need to know. But, truth be known, I probably wouldn't have read that entire book either. LOL!!!!

Wish you the best!

Feuer Nursing Review is awesome!!! I took the June class and I found out that I passed last week with 75 questions!! The teachers were amazing. i learned more in this class than I did in nursing school. They made it easy tio understand with great test taking strategies, question and best of all content. Its a little pricey but well worth it. I have the cd's too that I bought in class at a class diciounted price.

Yeah this is my question as well.

I highly recommend the Feuer CD lectures and booklets. First, I have no gain or association whatsoever with Feuer.

I am just writing because I am very impressed with these nursing reviews, and it is nice to have them to listen to and be able to listen again to drill it in.

For the NCLEX, I also used the Saunders Review Book along with Feuer and a Saunders NCLEX Q& A book, that I used partially.

It is nice to have the Feuer audio lectures to reinforce what you learned and what you are reviewing, and there are many valuable tips these lectures will give you in terms of your future nursing practice and legal pitfalls to beware of / avoid as well as just using these to help you pass your NCLEX. They also review delegation and prioritization issues very well.

I ordered the Pharmacology Review CD's and booklet, and was was so impressed with the content and quality of presentation, that I went back to Amazon.com to purchase the 28 CD and booklet Nursing Review set by Feuer which covers 11 CDs on Med/Surg, 6 CDs on Peds, 6 on Women's Health and Maternal / Newborn Nursing, and 6 on Psych.

These sets will not only help you review to pass the NCLEX, but they are wonderful just to listen to and gain valuable knowledge that you may not have fully gotten from nursing classes. The sound quality is excellent and the speakers are highly experienced, yet take a down to earth approach that maintains your interest with little stories that will help you remember the content better. It is well organized and very professionally done. They stay focused on delivering what is important to know while holding you interested. I learned so many things I did not know or did not know as well as I thought I did.

Even if you have already taken the NCLEX, I think these lectures will help build your confidence and help you think more like an experienced nurse. The Feuer nurses take a much more friendly approach to teaching than what you may have experienced in your clinicals and classes. It makes you relax. Sometimes, they will explain how to answer certain questions on NCLEX. Their approach is that they are there to help you. It is a very friendly relaxed yet professional approach. I wish some of my nursing instructors had been a bit more like Feuer instructors.

The Pharmacology CD set as well as the MEDSURG CD's and the Maternal Newborn/ Women's Health are all given by the same Nurse Practitioner, Kenya Beard for the 2009 CD Feuer. (The booklets are 2011). The content is up to date.

Kenya has a beautiful voice and a beautiful way of inflecting her voice that really holds your interest, and she finds ways to add humor and interesting stories that stay on the task of reviewing the material.

The psych lectures are also phenomenal in the content. There is a LOT of info given about communication techniques in such situations as dealing with an angry patient, psychotic patient, paranoid patient, etc. She also goes over a lot of medication information that is much more clearly presented than my school lectures. Also, she gives a lot of interesting stories as examples of mental disorders and legal issues, etc., but it is done in such a way that it helps you understand the material better and it is very interesting to listen to. The material is well-organized and very interesting. The material in the booklets reinforces what you should know as well as adds some things not covered in the CDs. By the time you are finished listening to the Psych CDs, you will feel like you have a much better understanding of your role as a nurse in helping these types of patients, the legal issues, communication issues, and medication issues. The learning curve is incredible for all of these CDs.

I wish I had had these CD's to listen to around NUR241 or so. These people really know how to teach ins such a way that you won't forget and they put it in a nutshell ( so to speak).

The pediatrics lectures have wonderful content, but I did find the nurse who did those to be a bit "shouty" and seemed to have a more anxious feel to her voice. She certainly knows her peds, but I wished that it was presented in a little more calm manner. You will still gain a lot from listening to her lectures... it is just her manner of delivery that creates a little anxiety tone. They are still great lectures.

Someone stated that these Feuer sets were a bit "pricey", but I feel that they are pretty good for the money, considering how many CDs you get and the ease of listening and the effort Feuer company has made to make these top quality reviews. For the 28 CD set, not counting the booklets, it is about $205.00 and only about $7.00 a lecture. Along with that, the booklet material is good also.

Lillypad274 I am having a hard time finding out what is covered in the pharm CDs. Do they cover the different drugs? I have no problem with math but I can't learn the drugs for the life of me.

The Feuer Pharmacology Set is a 6 CD set and includes: Legal Issues, Methods of Administration ( lot of helpful review as well as tips from experienced nurses and including little things that could cause or prevent a lawsuit ), Pharmacokinetics, Drug Classifications, Herbal Meds, IV Therapy, Drug Calculations. They lectures are done in such a way that it is not just throwing out facts, but putting pieces together in a way you can remember better. They also tell some stories of incidents that created problems or embarrassment and you will make sure to avoid those, because the stories are interesting and make a point.

It comes with a booklet for the powerpoint slides along with questions at the end. They review which IM sites are best for certain meds, needle sizes, adverse reactions, etc..

Just listening to these CDs helps drill in important info that you may otherwise not learn as well, and when you give meds, you will probably remember things reviewed in these CDs.

They go over such things as the Antibiotics and their action and side effects, ways they need to be administered, Hormonal agents, anticoagulants, Antihistamines,, Mucolytics, Leukotriene inhibitors, Hypoglycemic meds, Pituitary hormones, Diuretics, Antithyroid and thyroid meds, Antiparkinson meds, Anticonvulsants...just to give a few examples. they also give review questions and there is also a section on math.

These lectures are given by very experienced nurses who are there to help you. They make some of it entertaining while still staying focused. I think it is helpful not only for passing the NCLEX, but just gaining confidence by knowing things these experienced nurses have to teach. Kenya Beard is excellent!!
