I just got accepted into Nursing school and so did a fellow classmate of mine. This individual only got in by way of cheating and using other classmates as this person only did about 20% of their work while others helped for the other 80%. I honestly know I would not want this person working on patients, or at least my family members.
My question for you all is:
Do people like this make it all the way in Nursing school? If so, what was your experiences and how did the other classmates react to such a fellow classmate?
I'm a little confused...you said you helped her study, so how is studying with someone cheating??
She cheated off of others and I didn't know. I just feel bad because she passed the class because I spent hours teaching her everything. I was later told by other classmates that she wanted to sit by me during tests to cheat off me. I really fell into the "Oh, woah is me bit," and helped her pass the class thinking she was really "challenged." Oh well, I did what was right, in my mind, and I helped a fellow student pass the class. I just wanted to ask you all if people like that make it all the way through Nursing school, is all.
If she's a cheater then she probably won't make it through nursing school. One thing though, be careful about hearsay. People are telling you things about this person but you didn't actually witness it yourself.
I don't think you should feel bad about helping her study to pass the class. If you offer to help someone, then there is nothing wrong with that. If she accepted your help, nothing wrong there either. Just be very careful with hearsay.
They will be weeded out eventually.
Weeded out pretty soon, at my school, lol! OP, don't worry about what others do or do not do. You'll have enough on your slate to accomplish with inadequate time to do it. The inadequately prepared, the lazy, and the ones who can't keep up will fail out or quit.
"the worst thing is, i'm one of the students that helped this individual study to pass but, i later found out, from other students, that this individual used me for my kindness. i feel so terrible. thank you all so much for responding. i was hoping you all would help me ease my worry."
sometimes you learn things in nursing school that aren't in the syllabus. this is one of them. nursing is a collaborative profession and we do help each other, but you'll learn to identify the users.
faculty are generally pretty good at sussing out cheaters eventually; it is perfectly acceptable to help them do that part of their job so they can do their best to help you with yours.
and as several others have said above, she won't be able to cheat on the nclex.
as a final check, if she does manage to pass nclex (most people who graduate from school do, you know, by far), she won't be able to get away with that foolishness when she has an actual, like, job.
I'm a month into my Nursing 111 class, and I can tell you that if this classmate cheats all the time, he or she will not last long. Our program is structured so that you have a lecture, a skills lecture, and a skills checkoff all within the week. Our skills lecture is on Friday, and we don't get done with it until 8 PM. Our skills checkoff is on Saturday beginning at 8 AM and lasting until 5 PM. We have one night to learn the skill, and if we fail it we are removed from the program. Class is equally as hard. I can assure you that unless this person buckles down, begins studying, and starts taking responsibility, he or she will not last.
People like that do NOT make it through nursing school. You will quickly learn how nursing school is so much more than just knowledge tests. Even people who know the material often do not pass, because they cannot APPLY the material. I hope this person fails out sooner rather than later, because, as others have stated, they are putting patients at risk. Good Luck to you in your studies!

Its amazing what people can get away with. We had people cheat almost all through NS. Until we got to the critical care component, where constant examinations weeded out the cheaters fast.
I guess it depends on the course...
OP, I know this is frustrating for you, but i would concentrate on MY nursing practice. There will always be cheaters among us.
