Felician University ABSN 2022 Spring

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello all, I just wanted to start this thread for all future, present or interested Felician ABSN students. I’ve been recently accepted into the January 2022 ABSN class and wanted to connect with people on my similar path

Hi, I'm going to be applying to Felician for the Summer 2022 start date. I'm missing Pathophysiology and was wondering where did you take it? Also, were they quick to respond once you submitted your application? Thanks!

I would say do not attend and go to a different school! This is school is horrifying and every semester all I do is pray to God I make it out! I literally feel like I am fighting for my life in this program. Every semester they change up to rules to make things harder for us and I’m not exaggerating! I failed a classes my first semester with a 75 and was informed a week after when it was already second semester that I failed another because they calculated it wrong! They don’t even allow you to review exams maybe just a few questions that many may have gotten wrong but you can not individually ask your professor to review the exam with you! Smh I don’t trust this school! This is my third semester and we use to have some assignments that would help give us some points towards our grade but now they have changed assignments into a pass/ fail and now most of our hard classes are strictly based on our exams! It’s awful because our assignments are a lot of work and now only count as a Pass/fail! And trust me if you just fail with a 76.4, they will not help you get that extra .6 to pass the class which is a 77! It is honestly so sad and for this school to be a strict  Catholic school, they have no mercy!! I have friends in other nursing schools which are much more well known and I’m honestly so jealous as their teachers curve grades etc and really do their hardest to help out the students because they want to see them pass. There is a huge nursing shortage and you would think they would want to help us get our degree, but honestly all they care about is money and having a high NCLEX Rate! If you show any weakness or signs that you may not pass the NCLEX then you can forget about it ✌️ There’s no waiting list for a reason and It is easier to get into this school for a reason cus they will drop you without any remorse cus they are still making money! And then no classes will transfer even to their on ground program if you fail out! They will offer you to take an exam and pass with a 77 for the class to transfer any credits to the on ground nursing program which you will have to reapply for! So now the people that have failed out literally just lost 30,000 like that cus they missed by 1 or .6 points! You can only fail one class when before it was two but they changed that and if you fail another time then you are out the program, $30,000 in debt with barely any other options after that. So I’d say pick another school by all means! My cohort started with around 80 and I can assure you it’s less than 50 students now. Nursing school is no doubt hard everywhere, but trust they don’t make it easier for you at all! It looks attractive for all the right reasons, but the switch up is real! It’s all about the money here! Even academically exceptionally students don’t do well and it’s extremely hard for bad test takers. The material is not outrageously hard, it’s honestly more so the tests! It isn’t impossible to pass, but extremely difficult ! I have no more chances left and so I pray I don’t fail out after completing three semesters with one more semester to go and not being able to transfer the credits and being further in debt with nothing no degree! Just something to really think about!! If you do still decide to go then I would say learn and practice how to do NCLEX questions, take advantage of tutoring, don’t work unless you are extremely disciplined & keep to the bare minimum, have a study group, figure out how to take notes from the textbook readings as you are really on your own with very few lectures, watch Youtube videos, study several hours a day, make or buy flash cards & study guides, create a schedule that works for you so you don’t fall behind on your school work, start studying ahead at least 1 week before because you can not study  last minute unless you are extremely gifted and everything comes easy to you, and learn how to be a good test taker if you are not. Nursing school is a whole different ball game especially this program since it’s hybrid & ABSN, and you really need to learn how to conquer doing NCLEX questions, understanding the material & mastering critical thinking skills. Best of luck!!

Wow. Thank you for letting me know how it is! They kept blowing up my phone and when I didn't answer, I received a "CLOSING YOUR FILE WITH FELICIAN" email. The counselor I worked with seemed annoyed that I took my prerequisites in a different order, than she wanted me to. I knew that the program seemed too good to be true. I'm not applying there anymore!

Yup get out while you can because it’s not worth it! They capitalize on that fact that ppl are desperate to get into nursing school and take advantage! Give yourself options and take the TEAS or HESI test if schools require it! Don’t take the easy way out* Best of luck!

Is the program that bad?!! Like is it possible to pass if you’re very studious?! Is everyone in the program that toxic/unsupportive?

If we are talking about the Hybrid ABSN program then yes it is that bad in my opinion. It’s definitely possible to pass since I am already in my 3rd semester but I did fail my first semester and just passed one of my courses last semester. People definitely pass but people definitely fail out too and a lot which doesn’t seem to be the norm in several other nursing programs. There are factors to consider: The program is fairly new and seems they still have not managed to figure out exactly what makes the students successful. Also the program is hybrid so you teach yourself which can be hard. Every semester rules change and seems like we are the Guinea pigs to see what works and what doesn’t. The most support you will get is from other classmates. Everyone is assigned a “academic coach” but I personally do not feel they help much as they have no understanding of what’s it’s like to be in nursing school or anything in the medical field as most have business degrees. Their role is to help with time management skills, stress relief techniques, and study techniques which is the best they can do for you. There are some good teachers, but most do not make their own exams so their guidance can be limited when it comes to studying effectively for exams since the heads of the program usually do. When it comes to reaching out to the heads of the program, forget about it. It can be hard time getting in contact with them and when we do they seem to just defended their decisions and opinions and do not try to compromise or make any real changes and if they do it’s after the fact. The program is not just about being studious but it’s about really understanding how to decipher NCLEX questions and apply critical thinking skills as that is the focus of the exams. Nursing school is like no other and the focus especially in this program is mastering exams which are NCLEX style questions so they can ensure you pass your NCLEX which isn’t necessarily bad but takes some time getting used to. As long as you have great time management skills and develop a routine, practice and master NCLEX style questions,  understand how to apply information studied, use all the resources available like Youtube, flash cards, etc., study the right things, and study effectively then you should be fine which is what most struggle with. Key is to study smarter not harder which I’m finally starting to realize!

Oh wow thank you for all this info. What is the passing grade for the exams and classes? How did you fail in the first semester but still continue onto the next? And how many semesters is there in total (hybrid ABSN)? LOL sorry for all the questions

NP and because during my first semester you were allowed to fail two classes before getting kicked out but now you can only fail once before getting no kicked out. It’s 4 semesters but for many it’s 5 because of failing a course. When you fail a class you get set back a semester and are only allowed to take the course you fail alongside a course that you need that doesn’t require a PreReq like the required religion class, geriatrics which doesn’t have a clinical, or research class the following semester. Passing grade is a 77 and so if you get a 76.4 you will fail that class and they will not round your grade to pass unless it’s a 76.5.

is anyone planning to apply for Summer 2022 that I believe starts in may ?
