Feeling dispondant after a bad final

I'm hoping someone can offer some advice. I started a a new nursing program. I passed the first class but I didn't pass the second class. I was told I can come back and repeat it, but it is a mark against me. I'm thinking about applying to another program, but I think I 'll be considered "damaged goods" and wont get in anywhere else. I'm nevous about returning back to this program because it felt like the instructors purposely made the final extremely difficult because they told us there were too many of us still in the class after midterm. Indeed, out of 58 of us 32 of us failed the final. Should I try to overcome my fear and try again next Jan or should I try to see if i can get in another school?

Sounds like you're in a 'weed out' program. Any program that thinks there are too many not failing out, imho, is a bad one. I really wish there was some kind of governing body that fines schools that purposely do this. They are stealing money from the students by accepting them into the program and having absolutely no intention of seeing more than half actually graduate.

I agree! My BSN program was weed out for pre-reqs, but once you were accepted to the program, the faculty worked very hard to make sure everyone succeeded. They were very supportive and happy for us when we made it through to the end!

if they didn't think you could do it, they wouldn't tell you to try again. believe me, the ones they don't want back won't get that invitation.

meanwhile, now you have an idea of how hard nursing school is. don't delude yourself into thinking it will be easier somewhere else, because it probably won't.
